or creates a strange metallic taste on your palette, or brings you out in hives or creates a general feeling of nausea, then look away now.
Following the reformation of the classic band as a touring entity they have gone through many stylistic changes, musical directors and more than a few musicians.
This link takes you to a very recently posted vid of their May 2000 show in Detroit.

This is it. They were and have never been better.
This is Steely Dan.
In stereo?
Obv’s. Twice as good.
Sounded a little weedy for the first couple of songs and then as the band and Donald’s voice settled down, POW!
I wasn’t aware that so much of the onstage guitar heavy lifting was done by Walter Becker.
Some very tasty solos and little fills from him.
The lengthy drum solo, so soon after that great big technical malfunction, was a terrible waste of time and dissipation of energy, I thought.
Excellent show, and a fine set list. Sad to say, better than the O2 show last October. I’d probably go and see Donald Fagen if he was performing solo material, but think I’m done seeing Steely Dan live now. Six times is enough.
I have never seen them regrettably (had tickets once and couldn’t go), however I have read elsewhere that even before Becker’s untimely demise they had been “phoning it in” for a few years.
I don’t think they phoned it in at the O2 – they were brilliant, even making the appalling venue bearable.
They did a good job there, though it was the set that has toured the USA for 6 years, pretty much, minus Walter’s always amusing rap within “Hey 19”. I enjoyed it and shared it with my kids who are big Dan fans, but it was not as stellar as previous UK performances – for obvious and sad reasons.
The sound was a lot better than the previous Wembley gig
Astonishingly great. We’ll not see their like again.
*reaches for Citizen, cranks up amp*
BTW, Guitars 101 has this very gig available – 2 CDs chock full of whack – in flac format.
