Incredibly tight games so far and England did their very best to lose yesterday, but they scraped a win in order to stay in the tournament.
The commentary here in NZ is really good, from women players who know the teams well. In one game we had a married couple out there batting for NZ – possibly the first time this is has happened in international cricket…? Imagine having a miscommunication with yer missus over whether there was a quick single available at long on – and then sending her back, causing a run out! I’d never hear the end of it.
England players Natalie Sciver and Katherine Brunt are also a married couple.
Perhaps it’s not as rare as I assumed then.
Think there is a couple in the female GB Hockey team too
Women’s Cricket – a surefire Hamper for BC!
ps I’ve been enjoying the bits of matches I’ve managed to catch
I wonder what the sledging is like in women’s cricket?
Very little from what I can see. There’s a very aggressive South African bowler but apart from that there’s lots of what looks like genuinely good natured banter between teams.
That’s good to know. It’s all the b*ll*cks that puts me off watching men’s professional sport – sledging in cricket, diving in football, etc.
Women playing cricket?
No good can or will come of this.
Boxmakers across the Empire must be quaking in their boots
Here in Spain, the West Indies v England men’s Test series is being shown as a free live stream on YouTube. Seems to be the BT Sport coverage, with Ian Bishop, Curtly Ambrose, David Gower, Mark Butcher and Steve Harmison on commentary. No idea how and why this has been made available in this way, but I have been loving the opportunity to wallow in all day cricket coverage again, something I haven’t done since the great days of Peter West and er, Ted Dexter.
Semis this week:
England v South Africa
Australia v West Indies
Caught a bit of the England v Bangladesh quarter final last night – again, free live streaming on YouTube.
Happily, some of these games have been on normal free to air TV here in NZ. But I’ll look to YouTube if the England semi isn’t on.
It seems as if these YouTube broadcasts are being made freely available in primarily non-cricketing countries. So I’m not sure whether a free stream would be available in NZ. YouTube was indicating that only about 5000 people were tuned in to the official live stream of the West Indies v England game in Grenada I was watching yesterday. Those numbers must represent viewers in Spain alone, not worldwide. So I’m not sure where these broadcasts are going out, but their presence here is most welcome. I imagine a VPN could get around regional blocking.
I see you what you mean. I can always get Eurovision live on YouTube here in NZ, probably because it’s not part of the region that’s involved in it. It’s a Sunday morning here when it’s on and we really like watching it.
Semi final is going England’s way so far.
ENG 293-8
SA 88-4 (23 overs)
It’s not being shown live on YouTube, is it?
I can’t find it, anyway….
The mysteries of life continue. After BC’s reminder I came down to turn on the tv this morning and look for the official YouTube stream, and there isn’t one! Plenty of bogus channels with homemade commentary to frustrate the search, mind. This is so odd, because the England v Bangladesh game was on live a few days ago, but I can’t find any record of that either now. The England v West Indies men’s Test series is still up there, though.
So: an Australia v. England final.
It’s a pity that the game will start at rather an inconvenient time for cricket fans in Europe, but I suppose that’s inevitable.
I looked for it on YouTube as well but Sky have it. The final is on Free-to-air TV on Sunday though, so that’s good.
