Yep, ordered it this afternoon. As I was reading the article and what was included I was dreading seeing the price, as I have a few things ordered over the next few months. So when I saw it was priced at £65 I was very pleasantly surprised. Makes the Gene Clark No Other box set look even more expensive. The Purple Rain set that came out a couple of years ago was also reasonably priced, so long may this continue.
Yep, though still debating on ordering – its definitely a want and it’s a reasonable price, but…..
Most of the recent Prince reissues have been released in hi-res. I know this will be available as a download as there is a comment in the press release that the video (which I can live without) is exclusive to the physical product and not the download. The question is whether the whole 5CD content will be available as hi-res, just the album or whether it’s all just standard resolution. Doesn’t seem to be any confirmation anywhere a yet……
I am excited too but can also do without the DVD. Why do they always do this – how many people actually watch a DVD more than once?
I am looking forward to the Sign O the times reissue whenever that comes out
At least in this case the DVD is not really making it expensive.
The worst is when they issue box sets that include vinyl and CD – the vinyl usually pushes up the cost (and the postage) when it’s something that I neither want or can play, having no vinyl player and living in a 30degC climate that would warp the buggery out of it.
The ones that really irritated me were the Fleetwood Mac reissues – they included vinyl which added to the price a little. Not only that the physical box set had a 5.1 mix on the DVD, but the rest of the tracks were only standard resolution. The download (with all bonus tracks) was full 24/96 hi-res. So if you wanted the 5.1 mix and the hi-res you had to buy both the download and the physical box.
And they wonder why physical product sales are declining….
That whole Around The World/Parade/Dream Factory/Crystal Ball/SOTT period is astonishing, but I imagine it will be a bugger to separate and classify what songs belong where.
In answer to my own question, I now see that Qobuz have the 1999 Live in Detroit track available at 24/88 and so am hopeful the rest will also be in hi-res.

I’m tempted to buy from Amazon USA, as it’s only about £56 (equivalent) on there.
Watch out for import charges if not included!
Ah…I knew there’d be a catch!

Don’t worry. I think they’ll manage it somehow. The keepers of The Purple Vault are doing pretty well, in my view.

The whole Purple Rain SDE was available in hi-res, wasn’t it? Apart from the DVD.
Yes it was, which is why I held off ordering the CD/DVD package. Just that with record companies, you never know……..
“I bought myself a tee-shirt, it was €19.99!”
