My intent is to secure 4 tickets for Wembley next August. My daughter especially is a fan and my wife is very keen to see them. My son and I are both partial to ‘ver Play. And I doubt anyone doea big gigs better. And gig going as a family is one of my favourite things.
I joined and was immediatly thrust into position 55,042 at 09:00. 55 minutes later, I have reached a dizzying 37,659. This is clearly going to go on until lunchtime when, I fear, the tickets will run out before I have managed to get 4. I will keep you posted.
it seems a lot less exciting than the Oasis ticket queue. I’m now 27833 and just getting on with work, occasionally jiggling my mouse to keep my personal laptop awake.
Are you going to post it all over social media, then be pictured with a frown when you don’t get one or are asked to stump up three times the asking price?
*paces room waiting for next update*
Hope you get the tickets! They put on a great show – I confess I don’t play their albums all that often at home, but I’ve seen them live a couple of times, within big crowds, and there’s a real communal spirit at play when they perform. Too many folk adopt a sniffy attitude to them, but they deliver a really good live event.
Yes indeed. I once stumbled upon them at Glastonbury and it was a great gig. I honestly thought “Oh, I get it now.”
I’ve never played a Coldplay record since, but it was lovely for an hour.
That’s exactly where I am on them. I suspect the show will be brilliant – and they have a good set of songs. And everyone knows the lyrics to the la la la bits don’t they?
I think I am crashing and burning. Only enhanced packages available and there is 23000 punters in front of me. I will leave it hanging (more than anything to see what happens) and have another go at the general sale tomorrow. I have already joined Twickets and set up alerts for resale.
Going to gigs is a lot of palaver. I’m not sure why they don’t sell all of the tickets at presale but I’m sure there is a reason. Hospitality packages are in the region of a nice holiday price. I think I would prefer a holiday.
They couldn’t call it presale if they sold all of them then.
I have wondered what the seats are like in the normal sale period.
Two more dates have been added. I joined both queue.s The Wednesday night go has the shortest queue at 48000. I am preparing myself for disappointment.
I think others could do big gigs better, a certain Mr Springsteen for one 😉 He has some good songs
Don’t get suckered in to paying more than your budget, tickets will be available some time between now and when the dates happen almost certainly.
I have seen Mr. Springsteen at Wembley. He was fantastic. My list of bands I would go to Wembley to see is very small. He was top of the list. Coldplay are second. I’m struggling to think of a third to be honest.
Good. The act I have seen the most at Wembley Stadium (the old one) is The Stones. They were worth seeing there too. I have not seen Coldplay, I like their first 2 albums and am sure it’s an enjoyable night out. I think apart from Springsteen and The Stones the only other act I saw there was Bob Dylan (1984). Saw a few Welsh rugby internationals there too, but unfortunately missed the famous win over England (1999)
I did see Leeds beat Liverpool at the 1992 Charity Shield. Cantona hatrick and Strachan own goal. Definitely better than watching Leeds lose to Watford in Cardiff a few years ago.
At least in Cardiff you can get to a good pub or restaurant afterwards within 100 yards or so of the stadium
That and the 2 hour queue driving out (surrounded by jubilant Watford fans).
I saw him at Wembley on July 4th 1985 and the Independence Day theme came through.
Still one of the best 5 gigs I have ever been to.
That’s the one I was at
I have been unsuccessful in the Edgbaston ticket ballot for England v India but have another chance in the ‘second chance’ sale afterwards once the ballot winners have had at it. Currently England appear to be taking dates away rather than adding them, as you’d be a brave person to book even for day four of a test.
If you like the music, a big gig is fun. I’ve been to big ‘spectacular’ concerts where the music was not my taste, and found them an uninvolving experience.
The family all like a bit of Coldplay. Part of the appeal is going as a family – and I think Coldplay are very much a communal experience.
I am now 5364 in the queue for the new date added for the Wednesday. It feels both possible and impossible at this stage. I don’t know whether to be hopeful or not.
And that was the closest I got. Two minutes later the queue closed. We go again tomorrow!!!!
Well – I noticed a couple of extra dates were added around lunchtime and joined the waiting room nearly an hour before it opened.
And success! I got 4 seats (together) in an ok section (to the side but close to the stage). It was at the top end of what I thought I was going to have to pay. Definitely one of the benefits of working from home…..
I need a cup of tea now….
Well done, LB, I’m certain you will enjoy it. My girls had a great time in Dublin a few weeks ago. Isn’t it strange that there’s a sense of achievement when you manage to secure tickets for a gig these days?
That sense of achievement is quite odd but definitely there. I am expecting to hoisted on the shoulders of my family for such an achievement as well!
Hurrah!
Can’t say I’m a huge fan but got roped into attending a show with various family members last year and it was a very good event – I was surprised how many songs I knew and the spectacle was…..well, spectacular I suppose! Very impressive overall so you’ll have a great night out.
Bravo on getting tickets. After the first couple of albums they got a bit samey to me, but I saw their latest Glasto show on TV and was very impressed. Chris Martin seemed far more humble and matey than I expected given his supposed “conscious uncoupling” right-on persona, and The Other Three helped make up a pretty tight band. And they definitely pulled out all the stops lights-and-FX-wise. Seeing them in real life must be a good night out.
Oh, and Fix You is an absolute classic. If I was a songwriter and that was the only thing I ever came up with, I’d consider it a job well done.
Always the same answers … I don’t really like them but I saw them by accident and they were great. It could just be that they are great.
I’ve only seen them once in Abu Dhabi amid a torrential hot thunderstorm and they were brilliant. Mercury Rev were support which was a Brucie Bonus.
Saw the Glasto set on tv and it was pretty much the same. Well worth seeing once though.
Did they play Yellow?
Did they play Paranoid Android?
Marina Hyde made me laugh, commenting on Keir Starmer’s freebie of £686 worth of Coldplay tickets: “How many thousands of tickets does that buy?”
Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Couldn’t help but comment that an olympic level of snide from her doesn’t surprise me.
It’s interesting that there are news stories about Coldplay ticketing issues. I tried. Along with, by my maths, around a million or so other people. Did I have any issues?
Not really – other than the fact that there were lots of people in the queue. It was a better experience than trying to get a drink in a busy bar with crap bar staff.
The queue was long and the tickets ran out twice before I finally got some on the third date release. I had done a little homework and signed up for presale. I should have got up earlier to walk the dog becasue joining the waiting room 10 minutes before was not the smartest move.
My laptop was on in the corner and I kept an eye on it. That was it really. It never kicked me out. I had followed the instructions (sign in to Ticketmeaster and have the presale code ready). When I got to buy some tickets, the choice was limited and the cheaper tickets had gone. I was buying 4 together so that was also probably a factor.
There was no dynamic pricing which, I think, is a good thing. Tickets on Viagogo in the equivilant section seem to be between £700 and £900 each. To be fair to Ticketmaster and Coldplay, they could have made more money selling it to someone else other than me but they didn’t.
I really can’t see a better way of selling tickets for these huge, in demand shows. Apart from a cheaper ticket price in the first place. But then the demand would have been even bigger.
I could be wrong but I’ve been assured that your place in the queue bears bo relationship to what time you entered the waiting room. A person could enter the waiting room 30 seconds before sale time and be thousands of places closer to the top of the queue than many of those who were in 30 minutes earlier.
LOTS of grumbling in East Yorkshire about the sale of tickets for the Hull shows. Mind you, Hull folk find it easy to grumble about anything.
I didn’t bother looking. I like some of their songs and am aware that they ‘mak show’ very well, but I can’t get past the fact that Chris Martin irritates me beyond all comprehension.
On a more positive note, you’ll be pleased to know I got tickets for Kylie’s Tension tour within ten minutes of the pre-sale opening.
Kylie divides opinion in our house. I’m definitely more of a fan than Mrs LB.
I’ve been besotted since forever, but I’m not entirely sure about her current ‘era’ of treated vocals and endless underwhelming collaborations. Notwithstanding, I’m sure the shows will be amazing.
Green Man effectively sold out in seconds this morning. Shortest queue in ticketing history?
No luck for me today.
