Director: Taika Waitiki
I don’t know whether this movie has been released internationally. It was received well at Sundance and is currently playing in Oz.
I took my 98-year-old Mum to see it.It was PG, it’s set in New Zealand ( she loves NZ), stars the urbane Sam Neil and the plot is about the relationship between a grumpy old man and his relationship with a troubled kid who he gets lumped with in odd circumstances after the kid has been put through the social services wringer and got into lots of trouble, and Mum is an ex-teacher. So tick tick tick .
But it was much better than just a feel good movie to amuse senior citizens. The young lad is the chubby Julian Dennison who made his presence felt a year ago in the movie Paper Planes. He delivers his lines really well and the chemistry between Neil and Dennison is great.
From a more touching theme it turns into an adventure then comedic chase but all the time Neil and Dennison and the kiwi scenery continue to impress.
Might appeal to people who enjoyed:
Kids will love it, I’m recommending Mrs Wells takes the 16-year-old twins and Mrs Wells senior is proof of the pudding for the older contingent
