There is a splendid new 3 cd compilation Masekela 66 – 76 on Amazon for a shade under £14.00.
It has most of his vital work on it. Listening as we speak – perfect for this weather.

This is a belter – loads of stuff that’s never been on CD before – absolutely outstanding release.
You got that right Vulpes. Bargain of the year – been playing it a lot since it came on Saturday. I had a battered old cassette that had some of the stuff on it but this is just the ticket.

At the time of his death I don’t think any of the first 10 albums were available.
Several different labels involved, some of which are defunct.
Wrasse are the label for this compilation and are a mark of quality for re-releases of old African recordings. Lots of Fela’s albums were licensed to them for a good while before the big red box was released.
Maybe they’ll come up with something if this one sells enough copies.
A big Masekela box would be a good thing.
