Always interesting to hear how the weather is in the Afterword diaspora.
This year we are blessed with clear skies, mild temperatures and low humidity. Nice. That said 40 celsius, raging north winds and bushfire alerts are forecast for the first day of the Boxing Day Test.
It’s a very mild morning in Dumfries, 11c cloudy with little chance of rain. It’s 7:27am and I am still in bed listening to Rainy Day, Dream Away by Jimi Hendrix.
Feliz Navidad a todos!
Dull and grey here in Cambridge. And the weather’s not much to write home about, either. Peaking at 11 degrees C later, apparently.
Season’s greeting to the AW.
Rather dull and rather grey here in Stockholm too. But not cold and not raining.
The winter weather is capricious. Last Saturday we had a wonderful day of snow but it had all melted by the evening.
Going to be sunny today apparently. Very festive. My sister is in Switzerland and it looks like proper Christmas.
I’m still abed and the blind is firmly down.
I can imagine what the weather is like so I’ll turn over and get some more sleep.
Just woken pulled the blind up and as I suspected it’s much as I thought, though typing this I did spot a smidge of blue not enough to make a pair of sailor’s trousers.
I’ll wish you Felix Navy Dad.
I haven’t got the foggiest the blinds are down and they are staying that way. I’m sat on my old couch with a pair of headphones on, the only light in the room is leaking from the screen on my streamer and a lone candle.
T’was a hot, fine day here in Brisbane. Still very humid from weeks of rain and cicadas so loud that lunch was an indoor affair.
Made pork belly with caramelised vinegar that turned out very well, although I had to give the crackling a helping hand with my butane weed torch.
What a very Queensland culinary solution.
“Butane weed torch”
The fabulous furry freak brothers live!
Like Junes, blessedly cool, low humidity and a good breeze a mere 100km south of Brisbane. Aussie weather, eh?
My brother in Tasmania tells of weather that has been oscillating between the mid teens and the mid thirties for the last week.
It’s grey and cold in Enfield but it’s dry which is good enough for a walk over Forty Hall.
Happy Xmas Afterworders!
As above for many of us in the UK – mild for the time of year, an overcast light grey sky and, out here in the sticks, a gentle dampening of foggy mist covering the fields. Rain is unlikely today, and the rest of the week looks very similar, though we are (currently) promised some decent sunshine next weekend.
Whatever the weather wherever you are, gentle Afterworders, I wish you all peace and happiness for the quiet season and beyond into the New Year.
11 degrees, no rain, but thick-ish fog/sea mist here in Guernsey…
…Hoping it clears up a bit later, as I am barbecuing steaks, ‘shrooms and courgettes – after we have had a long break, following a starter of local lobster, crab, prawns and scallops.
Bouan Noué!
(pronounced “Bwau nweh”)
Can I come to yours for those starters @biggles?
Overcast in Lichfield, with a hint of mizzle to keep us on our toes (SWIDT!)
I’m the only one awake, bar the dogs, who both say hi.
Have a good day, y’all, it’ll all be over soon.
TV top tip: Gone Fishing Xmas special, in France.
On Monday we had about a half metre of snow. It remained cold yesterday with perfect Christmas weather. Now it’s +5 and the snow is gradually melting. Shame.
Dull and exceptionally mild here in Hampshire. The sun is trying to break through, but failing miserably. Have a great day everyone. Now where did I put that third glass of Prosecco?
Dull and grey, but mild in Reading.
Quite pleased it’s mild – not shivering like I have been for the past fortnight giving a hope that my core body temperature is finally rising. Now if I can just shake off this cough …
Weather is just an artificial construct designed to oppress the masses.
..says the AW Liberation Front spokesperson.
It’s grey and slightly damp-looking outside here, much as expected. Temperature mild for the time of year but it’s not t-shirt weather.
My skunk-smoking neighbour is out early, leaning against a lamppost and having a puff.
The expected hangover from last night/very early this morning has not yet arrived.
Merry Xmas.
Mild and cloudy in Upper Douglas this morning – bit of blue in the sky, no rain in the forecast – and no gale-force winds in prospect! Huzzah! View looking south, at the back of the house…
…and compliments of the season to all our correspondents!
Happy Christmas.
Nice big house as well!
Well spotted! That should, of course, read “view looking south, FROM the back of the house”.
All quiet on the Mid-Essex front. Birds flitting in the back garden too fast to be seen.
Overcast, drizzly and unseasonably mild in Brighton. (Apparently it’s nearly 20C, sunny and blue skies back in The Languedoc).
Peace & love to one and all
“Waves from Worthing”
As we speak, in Worthing at sister-in-law’s, just about to fall asleep after Christmas feast. I’d like to wave back but I’m a bit tired ….
It’s lovely in Sale. Bright and clear. About to take Mutley out for a stroll. Then hopefully it will be food time
Am in Toronto, currently -2C so quite balmy. No snow forecast today, but there was plenty overnight into yesterday so I think it’s an official White Christmas as there is enough on the ground
It’s been pretty sunny here in Nottingham all day, light winds and fairly mild. Saw plenty of joggers and cyclists out and about this morning.
Hope everyone is having a peaceful and pleasant day.
It’s been sunny here in Budapest today, with a high of about 7 degrees.
This is a picture of the city taken this morning on a long walk to parliament and back.
Dull and grey.
About to start cooking the meal accompanied by Whitesnake.
David Coverdale is stuffing your turkey?
Yes, indeed…
10th year in a row.
He is getting bored of it now…
How do you think the turkey feels?
Oven Ready and Willing
Mistreated?
Could be worse. Merry Christmas, AW-ers near and far!
Been mild and just enough gaps between the clouds for an occasional illumination. Going for little bike rides in the morning around Cheshire lanes, which has been lovely. This morning, Esclusham Mountain was aglow behind Wrexham. Waved at Pencilsqueezer, but his blinds were still down.
I’ve just put the bins out, which was my first trip outside today. It appears to be about 8 degrees and misty in Northampton.
Glorious sunshine and into the pool at about 10am. I maintain our pool but I hardly ever use it – which is silly because I always enjoy it when I pluck up the courage to go in. As if often the case, I blame Thatcher for the swimming lessons that disappeared in the early 70s when she was education minister. We have trained the dog not to go bananas every time someone’s in there – so she skipped along the edge happily chasing her new Christmas ball.
40 degrees at 0900.
It’s going to be brutal at the G today
Remarkable introduction to Test cricket for young Sam Konstas.
More a remarkable introduction to young Sam Konstas for Test cricket, I’d say.
I’m channeling my inner Geoffrey Boycott here – magnificent stuff from the young man but is it Test Cricket? Never want to go back to 5-day bore-fests but a rookie opener ramping (scooping?) the best fast bowler in the world just didn’t feel right. We’ll look back on this day and say “That’s when it all ended”.
Well he rode his luck, particularly in the first couple of overs, but there were some fantastic shots, including the scoopings. Bumrah was definitely unsettled. And the way he walloped Kohli for 4 right after their between-overs contretemps was just brilliant.
I’m certain the contretemps, however misguided, were Kohli’s way of saying “this isn’t cricket”. Looks like he’s Wrong. I’m off to listen to a recording of John Arlott, Lords 1963.
It was Kohli’s way of trying to unsettle the youngster. Gamesmanship. Kohli got fined.
I think I speak for everyone who doesn’t follow the cricket when I wonder: “What did Horace say, Winnie?”.
Not to worry Lodes, he’ll probably be out first ball second innings.
So, my feeling that this is the day when “The Chevy went to the Levee” is Wrong?
A thoroughly decent day of cricket. Had a bit of everything.
Don’t think Kohli likes it up ‘im…stupid boy Pike!
