Three months shy of their 50th anniversary as a recording act Horslips have slipped away.
Here’s the announcement from 20 minutes ago:
‘Horslips regret to announce that due to health issues the upcoming gigs, already rescheduled due to Covid restrictions, have now had to be cancelled. This applies to Derry, Dublin and Waterford. We’re really sorry about this but it’s due to circumstances beyond our control. They won’t be rescheduled. Arrangements are being made for ticket refunds where this hasn’t already happened. We’d like to thank all our fans who’ve waited so patiently and been so loyal to the band. We’ve absolutely loved playing for you and hope you enjoyed it half as much as we did.’
Here’s something from their last TV performance, on Ireland’s TG4 in 2019.

Oh goodness me, that’s a shame. I hope the underlying reasons are not too awful. I’d have loved to have seen the band play live again, though these Irish gigs were out of reach for me, I’d have been there in spirit.
I understand there’s nothing life-threatening involved, fear not.
Good news. Thanks!

….you rang?
May the hills that cast their shadows on your doors at evening be sunlit during the day.
Whos having the health issues do you know Colin?
I think we must respect the privacy of the individual, Seek. For the foreseeable, Horslips are not a performing unit. Just as a personal observation, I would add ‘never say never’. In any case, next year is their 50th anniversary and one never knows what might be planned…
Ah, that’s a shame. It’s a good 45 or 46 years since I saw them live and I’d definitely go now if they played again. Best wishes to them; a great band.
I echo what Blue Boy says.
I filled all my gaps in My Horslips collection a couple of months back.
In a time when I’ve tired of certain artists/bands (Bowie/Stones/R. Thompson/Steven Wilson) I doubt I’ll ever tire of listening to Horslips.
The first album I fell in love with (at a very tender age) was Dancehall Sweethearts. Still love it…thanks fellas.
The run through from their debut to Book of Invasions is well nigh miraculous, and essential. Fab band. Bitterly regret missing their Cropredy reunion appearance a decade or so ago.

*Maybe not the well named Unfortunate Cup of Tea…
I rather like the Unfortunate Cup of Tea… 🙂 The (admittedly atypical) ‘Snakes’ Farewell’ is surely a classic.
I also love Unfortunate Cup of Tea and don’t understand why it appears to be disliked by many Horslips fans.
Just not as Horslippy as the others. I concede that un-Horslippy instrumental is pleasant enough. I didn’t like their new direction. And as for the Man Who Sold America…..
Is it just me, or is the bass slightly out of tune?
….oh dear. That’s the only Horslips album I know and I like it a lot. I’ve always imagined it to be the runt of the litter.
