This Thursday is Horslips’ 50th anniversary – of turning professional and releasing their first single, ‘Johnny’s Wedding’, on 17 March 1972. Barry Devlin (bass, vocal) and Jim Lockhart (flute, keys, vocal) appear in an extended interview on Ralph McLean’s BBC Radio Ulster show at 8pm on Thursday (available on BBC iPlayer for 30 days thereafter). The band retired from the stage with an announcement in October last year, having played the last show prior to lockdown. Let’s hope they have some anniversary-pegged product planned. 🙂

And coincidentally, yesterday I studied the TV listings for next week, and on Berlin regional TV they’ll broadcast a »Musikladen« show from 1973, with (among others) Ken Colyer’s Jazz Band and Horslips playing live. Probably »High Reel«, which was a chart hit in Germany.
