Yes , Bargepole echoes the sentiments above – it’s been worth waiting for, great new site, congratulations and thanks for all the time and effort that has been put in.
Wow look, new style! Wow look, new features! Wow! Look! Neat! Hey, get over here guys, we’re off and running! Wow! Look at that! Tags! Search! Most commented! Someone tell Burt! Wow, look what I found!
It just can’t be said enough, a huge thanks to everyone who must have been working extremely hard to get this back up and running. I’ve designed a couple of small websites in my time for local clubs etc. and this is HUGE compared to those so I shudder to think what’s been involved.
Hello. It’s lovely to see the Afterword return. I have been a regular reader and very occasional contributer for a long time and always enjoy browsing the site. I look forward to more of the same in the future . . . .
I have something in my eye. How wonderful to be back in our home. Sanctuary at last. Well done to all those tireless volunteers. Now, where’s that Tedeschi Trucks Band video?
As well as the well deserved thanks to the admin team, I would like to add a special commendation for John Farrow aka katesfatdad for setting up the lifeboat on Facebook. Tireless but not thankless … John – Thank you!
I saw the lights on, so thought I’d pop in. Lovely to see the old place so comprehensively refurbished after so much hard work by our amazing landlords. “You’ve all done very well” Now what’s everybody having?
Oh, I used to be Gavin Adam but I’ve had one of those orations and had to change my name!
Well it’s good to be back and thanks to what is clearly my own idiocy my profile pic is of an upside down naked man. Strangely appropriate some may say.
Hello folks – it’s good to have the old local back. It’s the only one left where I know there’s always a pint waiting and good company to chew the cud with.
Thanks for the revamp I never did like that velvet floss wallpaper. Glad you kept the pool table in the public bar and the juke box still has the same old 45’s. I’m looking forward to the free jukebox and pool table on Friday nights and the roast spuds and cheesey snacks on a Sunday lunchtime.
As the old saying goes, “At last … something to read!” Thanks to all those who’ve put this back together. My train commute won’t be so forlorn any more.
Oh okay, I’ll stay then….. By the way, this has made my day. Fabulous to be back and a HUMUNGOUS thankyou to everyone involved in getting us all back where we belong. Mwaahh!!!
As requested by Retro I have abandoned my granddad and changed my profile picture to one of the young toro, when I was a mere ten year old calf…………moo!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of those with skills and dedication to get The Afterword back up and running! It feels like a lifetime since the site went down.
Thank you to KFD for the temporary home away from home, but it’s nice to be back in the ol’ place, nicely replenished with some new wallpaper & a lick o’ paint, & see some of the old faces that have been sorely missed.
Good to be back here and to see many familiar names (Hello @tiggerlion!)
Look forward to seeing what can be done on this new site and to practising HTML again.
Hi Tig! Not at the moment – but I got given some nice art material for Christmas with the warning that I should find a use for it.
This year’s resolution is a bit easier (for me) – every two weeks I ask the good folk of the Afterword to nominate items of cultural interest (music. film, art, etc) beginning with a consecutive letter of the alphabet – 26 letters in 52 weeks. So far A-D has been covered. For those non-Facebookers, I might do a quick summary of items posted. E should be coming up on 26 February.
I think you should still indulge your hard won sketching skill, sal.
Is anyone else having trouble replying to a post mid-thread? It’s taking me several attempts, which is why I haven’t been able to personally thank Vince Packet and Ivylander above. I’ve missed you guys too!
Well hello again, lovely people of The Afterword!
You won’t believe how many books I’ve had time to read while you were gone…
(Don’t worry, I’m not going to put them all in the next “Blogger Takeover”!)
I did…a silly “space flower” sculpture, crocheting and woodwork.
Not being able to preview the posts I hesitate to post a photo…I hope it doesn’t turn out huge!
OK, let’s try this:
Hope it works..
It’s good to be back….. special thanks to all those who have worked long and hard to make it possible….. to show my appreciation I’m going to TRY to be more positive and nicer from now on…….I did say try….
Lovely to be back and a huge thanks to everyone involved in getting us here. If you need a contribution to the cost of setting up, I’ll be happy to chip in. Great though it was to have a fourm on FB, it was never the same.
Must dash, but I’ll be back!
Oh thank f*ck! It’s been so lonely down in these sewers. I tried taking my mind off it with a QI binge on Dave. When that was exhausted I watched the Scottish version of the franchise (QI The Noo), followed by the Jamaican version (QI and I) the Geordie special (QYI), the tribute to Alvin Stardust (My Coo Ca Choo I), the gardening spinoff (Kew I), The Simpsons spectacular (Q Hay Caramba!), the very short one about 80s salsa maestros (Q Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey) and had even resorted – Rupert Pupkin style – to constructing my own set, complete with a dishevelled old mop in a floral shirt alongside me as my Alan Davies, to film my own version (QI Robot). I was about to give up and power down when that test card appeared.
A million thanks to those who did all the work. As soon as I can find the “donate” button I will be chipping in…
Love the profile picture. I feel certain that I am now the only AfterAfterworder to have multiple tattoos represented on blog profiles. Anyone out there fancy a kookaburra avatar to complete the set?
For several years now, I’ve wanted to have the Uffington Horse tattooed down my right upper forearm – the front legs would finish at the wrist, so that I could always roll my sleeves down to cover if the situation demanded. I was all set to do it Easter last year, but the money was needed for pressing non-luxuries. I’ve done mockups with henna, and it looks great. I’ve never been into tats and piercings, and am rather puzzled how strong my need for ‘Dobbin’ is. I must ask Rob_C why this is…
Testing testing… I kind of miss the Test Card which gave me a proustian rush. Still, good to see that not much looks like changing. Hoping for fewer divisive political threads and the opportunity to post Set you free by N-trance on s regular basis.

Hello again everyone. Amazing job in getting the site up and running again. Congrats and kudos to all involved. My user name is a little truncated since last we met but it’s me old “land’s end” himself. Good to see you all and nice to be back.

Stuff happened. I moved. Geacher (I think) asked me a question about the SNP and I never got round to answering. I made a dumpling (vegan version) for the new out-laws at Christmas and they couldn’t have been more tentative had I been offering ketamine nachos. They liked it. ‘It’s like Christmas cake!’ I know the Northern Line; a light sabre usually solves most of my problems there. I am genuinely grateful to the people whose talent and efforts rebuilt this place. I’m in London, not Edinburgh. Trafalgar Square is hideous, St Giles In The Fields is a fine, wee Palladian church. I’ve had my head up my bum for five months because of the post #indyref blues and because of a big move. I’ve been working. I snore like a bastard. Perversely I haven’t stopped writing about Scotland since I left, but for money. I’ve been back three times since October, fourth time next week. I can recommend a café in Denmark Street, a pub near Clapham Common underground station and bore people to death about language. (‘Butter?’ ‘?’ ‘For the bread?’ ‘?’ ‘CAN. I HAVE. SOME. BUTTER. PLEASE.’ ‘Still or sparkling?’ ‘Whahthefu?’ Etc.) Even went to a gig: Neneh Cherry, who is now 50 and still rocks the Adidas trackie top look. I’m going to stop now before I start writing poetry. I’ve got a laptop that works again. You’re all doomed. It’s nice to see you x

I really, really missed this place & all those lovely, familiar names. Soooo glad to be back & “Massive” props to all those who got us back here xx

A splendid effort all round. Greetings to the Massive from warmish India! This has got to be much better than that Facetube thingy.

Good to see you back again. Thanks to MillyMollyMandy for alerting me to your return. Haven’t been around for a while but lots of names suddenly look familiar.

Hello again everyone. Amazing job in getting the site up and running again. Congrats and kudos to all involved. My user name is a little truncated since last we met but it’s me old “land’s end” himself. Good to see you all and nice to be back.

Sorry where’s my manners? In all the excitement to get to the front i forgot to thank those tireless backroom boys and girls, without whom……. I like what you’ve done with the place 😉

Look at all the people who used to post on here!
I was curious to go back to the beginning, because someone reawoke a thread from last year (https://theafterword.co.uk/heartachingly-beautiful/)

Reawaking old threads?
What kind of idiot does that?
…er…
Pizon-bros says
I did it sometimes. I wonder where the thread about the meaning of our nicknames and avatar pictures went?
