I ordered something* online from HMV’s website, arisen phoenix-like from the ashes. You can now pay with PayPal, too.
I had to enter a new password.
I will let you know how things pan out.
(*) when I say “something” I mean, of course, a half-speed mastered LP.
Unfortunately it’s still somewhat under development and can’t be browsed in the usual way. You can search for particular items or see certain things available for pre-order, but you can’t, for instance, browse the vinyl sale to look for a bargain, or scroll through the CD selection.
Nice Vinyl Pre-Orders section, though.
I do hope they have sales again.
Plenty of sale action in the shops apparently, with lots of LPs at £9.99, including the pink Liege and Lief from last year.
You haven’t told us what it is you bought yet.
The CCR box. I only have Cosmo’s Factory (I Heard It Through The Grapevine is proto-Television) and 20 Golden Greats.
I try to avoid coloured vinly for SQ reasons.
So a bit more than “an LP” then? Seven LPs!
On an unrelated, lovers of CCR should look this way now:
She has done a whole album of Creedence and solo Fogerty covers and is fab. Change in the Weather.
In case Mrs F is reading, “an LP.”
And six other LPs, and a book, and a box…
As before not shipping outside the UK, amazon.co.uk used to be a good bet as they would remove VAT and the postage to Canada was very low, but they have recently doubled that so it is about 6 or 7 pounds for a single item and they also add customs duty in advance (can be a good thing), but it means I have basically stopped buying stuff from the UK.
The new HMV Vault in Birmingham is fab – almost as big as Amoeba in LAX.
Plenty of vinyl and a soon to be opened Café. Oh and a stage for live bands.
I commend their bravery in the current High Street climate.
I’ve still never seen a website that can authentically recapture what it feels like to browse aimlessly through LP and CD stalls! If that existed, I would probably buy more music online.
Going to HMV on Friday for the Dylan release.
Making a day of it as I can’t guarantee seeing said item in any of the other three towns between here – Camberwick Green – and there – Chigley. I’d be wasting my time in Trumpton.
I might do this on a regular basis (Jimi release in November) visiting all the second-hand bookshops, charidee shops and Waterstones at the same time.
Time flies by when you’re the buyer of a Bob.
Thanks for the heads up @fentonsteve I also ordered the CCR remaster box – that’s a great price.
CCR box arrived yesterday by Royal Mail 48 hour delivery. I was out so had to collect it this morning.
All fine so far, let’s hope for another sale like they used to have.
