I saw them in Holmfirth a few years ago. Great venue, with a sloping floor, like Brixton Academy. Only downside is getting home afterwards. The only option is a taxi all the way back to Barnsley, if nobody’s driving. They’ve had some big names there over the years. The funniest one was when a quite refreshed Lucinda Williams genuinely asked the audience if we all came from Holmfirth. She clearly couldn’t understand how she had such a fan base in a tiny Yorkshire town, with a population of around 5,000!
A really decent article & terrific BTL comments from a selection of the faithful.
The timing is perfect as I wasn’t aware they were playing in my hometown & I’ve just secured my ticket. Last time I saw them I was privileged to be standing next to the King of Hi Vis himself!
There are days when I’m convinced they are the greatest band of all time, bar none.
What a lovely piece.
I’m constantly delighted when unexpected fans break cover.
Altogether now ‘ Bubble perm, ever since your bubble perm…’
Can’t wait til mid May.
Just in case anyone thinks they might have peaked with the Trumpton Riots & still has them down as a comedy or novelty turn, check out ‘Awkward Sean’ from their latest. Funny, but also perceptive about strangeness & the tragic.
Having re-read the Guardian article I do wonder how many interviews, support slots or festivals they turn down. Are there any other bands out there that would do that I wonder?

As someone says in the comments below – “nice to see something on HMHB by a real fan”

A long article about the new album, discussing references etc.
