While it’s Nothing compared to her incredible act of bravery but it’s better than nothing and when it comes to facing down bullies, the more of us who stand up the better
Dear Madam/Sir
I am very impressed by the bravery of Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor on Russian State TV’s Channel 1 programme Vremya, for waving a placard yesterday evening which read: “No war. Stop the war. Don’t believe the propaganda. They lie to you here. Russians against war.” Ms Ovsyannikova is much to be congratulated for explaining further in her message on “Telegram” – “What is happening in Ukraine is a crime, Russia is an aggressor country and the responsibility for that aggression rests on the conscience of only one person. This person is Vladimir Putin. Unfortunately, in the past few years I have been working on Channel One, producing Kremlin propaganda. I am now very ashamed of this. Ashamed to have allowed lies from the TV screen, ashamed to have allowed others to zombify Russian people.” What disturbs me greatly, and millions of fellow Britons who care about your country and the truth, is the reports that Ms Ovsyannikova has been arrested and has now disappeared. Where is she? What is she charged with and why? When will she be released? I ask you to do all you can to ensure this brave journalist’s safety and at the same time to do all you can to ensure your fellow Russians in your great country to know the truth about the war crimes the Dictator Putin is doing in your name.

Hasn’t she been fined and released?
Not the end of it. She can still apparently go down for 15 years or end up dead like many other prominent critics of Putin
so don’t include this in the letter then or you’ll look daft:

Good point.
Fined roughly £230 and released.
Made a public statement on release, reiterating her opposition to the war and was not stopped from doing so.
No doubt she will be unemployable from now on in official Russian journalism and, as noted above she’ll be subject to re-arrest at the whim of the authorities.
Wait until she tries to leave the country.
Or, if allowed to leave, she should try to come back.
Meantime….
