And I’ve only just found out that it’s an English language cover of Weekend à Rome by Étienne Daho. I always wondered why the single was credited to them both.
I was obsessed with The Cure at this time. I had the shapeless back jumper, the dangly earrings, black nail varnish, bangles… But I could never get my hair to do THAT! It still saddens me now, but this is a gorgeous version of Just Like Heaven.
She was my first celebrity crush. (My first actual crush was Helen Powell in my class at school, who was also of the redhead persuasion. Sigh.) I was deeply in love with Belinda, and had many rather sweet prepubescent dreams – not daydreams, actual dream dreams – about, like, holding hands with her and stuff. All terribly innocent. Google tells me I was nine at the time.
And here’s a song which not only has the word heaven in the chorus (albeit not in the title) but also references both the Pavement and Hüsker Dü songs above. Yay!

@rich Were they on the Heavenly record label? That’d do!
