If the quality and presentation are up to the standard of Columbia’s previous Miles sets, and I’ve no doubt it will be, it’s a winner.

That’s a good spot, Mike – and a very fair price for the box set.
Yowza ! That’s a DEFINITE. Nice one man !
But… but… – it’s in mono.
Seriously, recently hearing all The Beatles psychedelic period in glorious remastered mono was a truly Damascene experience.
I have these mono recordings. They are revelatory. Buy!
I remember you saying Pencilbro’. Will do ! Mono Miles is my next adventure after my recent Kula Shaker revelation courtesy of Saucy.
It’s very tempting, Mike. Is the booklet any good?
They are bloody marvellous!! Much better than the stereo.
I’m in! Pre-ordered.
Note to self – remember to cancel Prime.
Highly recommended at whatever price, but this is a great bargain. I think it was more than £40 when I bought it a couple of years ago.
The Dylan mono box is also great, wonder if they will discount that too?
Ordered. Thanks for the heads-up.
$32.99 here in the States – I can’t pass that up…
I must have been extraordinarily fortunate the day I bought mine for £12.99. Second-hand admittedly but in pristine condition.
I am honour bound to reproduce the one-star review on Amazon which, notwithstanding the byline, seems to have been written by the wraith of Samuel K Amphong.
Is Miles Davis cash machine is following the foot step of Beatles or Dylan in relesing this mono box set to those who reside in the cellar with dansette player and who can not tell the difference between mono or stereo.Thre mono set for those who live in those happy days in the golden past when they have lard to butter theit bread instead butter that is so good it will lower your blood presure and put hairs on your head .Come on Davis mono box set is second or third class than the Beatles or Dylan mono box set. The Davis cash machine wants to make a killing on Broadway.Do not buy it and until the price drop off OR you can get it free at at Tesco chain if you spend 30 pounds.Every year Sony has to make more money by recycling old Davis cd in box set and may be next year there will be more Miles Davis music on 78 records and some one willm it is closer than the original sound and you can hear some burb in the 100 records set of 150 box set. This next box set is indensible and a must buy.The price of the box set in mono is over priced. Thanks to all those who think I a mad or can not write English which is my second language. There is a lot of mad people who think they are sane and sane people who do not think they are mad. Thanks Amazon for not removing my review. On the 15th of Jan 2014 I still believe that I can spend moneyon Bob Dylan or Beatles mono box set but no way I will buy Davis mono box set and still it is a a rip off.Someone said that if you play this mono in wind up gramophone after Davis play his solo part you can hear him breathing down you neck. The next box set will the super 78 records by playing the record you can see Virtual Miles Davis and see smoke and smell from his woodbine cigarette in the comfort of your room. Those who like Miles Davis mono box set, then buy Toscanini complete RCA box set.You can see Toscanini on the podium waving his baton and if you yawn he will throw the score at you.I got few bruises last week, may be Miles Davis will blow the smoke from his woodbine to you ………
Did he buy it?
Whilst we’re on a jazz bargain thread, may I recommend these; no booklet, occasional listing errors but, at around £1-ish per CD, absolutely wonderful music. Plus a free box.
Charlie Byrd, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, early Django Reinhard and more . . . .
Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan and more, including the greatest jazz album ever, The Train and The River by Jimmy Guiffre . . .
Both boxes grabbed. Thanks, Peanuts.
Buyer beware!
I acquired a Duke Ellington set from the same label last year. Several of the albums had been dubbed from scratched vinyl, with one album sounding like it was sourced from low bit-rate MP3 files of a dub of a badly damaged record.
Both of those sets good-sounding to these non-cloth ears, but I’ll tread extra carefully with any further sets from them.
It’s always a risk when the source material is old out-of-catalogue stuff. I generally make a point of reading every single buyer review before I click to buy.
“Good-sounding” . . . . yep, that’s why I recommended them!!
Hope you enjoy “The Train and The River” by The Jimmy Giuffre Trio. Here’s its proper sleeve: http://i.imgur.com/oPpQ5Vy.jpg
My Miles box set has been dispatched 😀
Mine was waiting when I arrived home from SXSW. Chill man.
