…have an album of covers coming out. They come across as a more ramshackle, indie, version of She and Him. In another world, their version of Grease could even be a hit. Anyway here is their Spectorized take on a VU classic, which I like.

I heard their cover of Grease. But the original is just about the greatest pop song ever made (maybe)

They get good reviews in the latest Bigmouth podcast (no accompanying interview or anything, just positive feedback).

I like M.E.W., I have the albums which I recommend, `Sunday Morning` is the first i`ve heard of this album, it`s OK. I`ve heard Flo`s first album but the thing is, although Flo has a beautiful voice but it does tend to `grate` after a while.

A short doc about them.

I’m not a huge fan of White’s own songs, but I love the sound that he and his collective produce.
Best displayed to date, IMHO, on the Natalie Prass album:

I’m with M. Bonehead here. Mattthew E. White has created something rather special with the scene he has got going on. I saw him live at Roskilde a while back and I will admit he was a little underwhelming as a live act. But the band were stupendous.
Love that Natalie Prass album and he deserves great respect for giving her that break if nothing else.
And I am now really enjoying his duets with Ms Morrissey who I had never even heard of.
Go with the Flo!

Sounds a bit too Pop for me.

Good on you for giving Natalie a try, Baron. I think it’s the vulnerability of her voice combined with those MEW arrnagement that did it for me.
Pop eh? Maybe the bearded one will surprise us all and come up with a genuine hit record. Not beyond the bounds of possibility.
I enjoyed this article on MEW and Flo in the Guardian which gives some background on their co-operation.
