What does it sound like?:
This two cd set was put together from shows on the band’s 2019 tour marking their fiftieth anniversary. Personally, I would have been perfectly content if they’d simply recreated their classic Space Ritual set from days gone by, but the band obviously thought otherwise, opting for a set which mixed newer material with selections from the best of their seventies and eighties recordings – indeed the album is something of a hybrid overall, half a ‘greatest hits’ set and half promoting their new at the time album. Thus we go from 1970’s Hurry On Sundown right through to pieces from the recent All Aboard The Skylark album (which, by the way, I think are far stronger in their live incarnations than they were on that album), calling in along the way on songs from Levitation, Warrior On The Edge of Time and Doremi Faso Latido among others. Inevitably there are songs you wish had been included at the expense of others, but overall this is a good souvenir of that tour (remember tours anyone?) that is pretty successful in covering all the bases for fans – and yes, they do play Silver Machine!
What does it all *mean*?
Motorhead’s Phil Campbell cranks up the volume with a guest appearance on a couple of songs.
