Obituary
Gone at 96. What a man, what a life! Music, acting, politics, humanitarianism. I remember back in the late 50’s or early 60’s, as a small child, singing ‘There’s a Hole in my Bucket’. Emmys, grammys. Sadly gone.

Great voice, dedicated activist.
The 60s album he did with Miriam Makeba is still a regular on my turntable.
I only have two Miriam Makeba LPs, and that’s one of them.
RIP Harry. What a voice and what a man although, tbh, I didn’t realise he was still alive.
Do you think he had a lifetime’s supply of Cadbury Whole Nut?
I just bought a fabulous Mariam Makeba 3cd compilation for little or no money. It is my most played album this year so far.
Our very own Petula Clark was apparently the first white person – and a woman at that – to touch a black man on live TV in America. There were conniptions, marketing man fainting in coils, etc etc.
Helluva voice. Inspirational man. RIP and heartfelt condolences to the family.
What a C.V. that man had. Spectacular.
R.I.P.
A truly GREAT human being – his contribution to making the world better than the way he found it can’t be overstated.
RIP.
When we got married my wife wanted to come down the stairs to some classical music, when she got to the bottom I wanted it to change to this.
Alas I didn’t get my way.
He had a life that was well lived. A great person.
He really had a wonderful voice didn’t he.
This is my favourite of his, one of those songs that can bring a tear to the eye. I used to hum it to my daughter as trying to sing it was nigh on impossible without tears (mine for the beautiful lyrics, hers at hearing me sing!)
Hey, like, I still don’t dig spiders, man.
In 1966 Harry performed at a big fund-raising concert at the Stockholm Opera for Dr Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement. It was broadcast live on Swedish, Danish and Finnish TV.
His performance of Mathilda was a real show stopper.
He took a three minute song and turned into a 15 minute epic. What a showman!
