The lad has just risen (12:30pm which for a Sunday isn’t unusual even though I have been up since 6am) and he’s just given me my Father’s Day present (+ chocolate, no card), very sweet of him. Did your kids get you anything?

I lost my Dad on New Years Eve; he was 84 and had a good innings. I can’t give him a present in person, but he can have this video.
The two of us went to a guitar clinic hosted by the great man, we learned one important thing: neither of us are Albert Lee, but then, he’s not us. But to be showed by the great man how to do that stuff, and some of the picking techniques, well – that’s priceless and he never stopped talking about it.
Yep, first Father’s Day without my Dad too. Mine had a good innings also , 95 and was pretty healthy all his life so that’s all good.
And after all Father’s Day is an artificial commercial construct, innit?
Nice bottle of wine from eldest son who’s down in that there London watching/listening to Keinemusik. These youngsters!
Youngest son is still recovering from Friday nights massive cocaine binge alas so I’m not too minded to go anywhere near him while he’s in come down mode. Yes, I know “everyone” does it but combine it with booze, attachment issues, early years trauma, low level criminal behaviour and neglect and you’ve got a lovely mix of issues going on.
Happy Father’s Day all!
I just got a WhatsApp message which is about right.
Not even that for me.
The day is young.
What’s app and a Facebook collage from the girl. The Swede’s don’t celebrate it today, so nowt from the boy. I’ll take that.
Now much older and … zilch.
Update I’ve had a WhatsApp no mention of Paternal Parents Day, just a reply to something I sent yesterday.
Updated update he’s just remembered* it’s fathers day and wished me happy fathers day.
* his girlfriend reminded him.
Not got that from 2 possible options
(Then again, I haven’t contacted my dad either)
So far I have had avocado on toast with poached eggs cooked by my 17 year old son. it was very good and hit the spot after I’d walked the dog. His twin sister started her first ever part time job this morning at 07:00 so festivities will start shortly (although there may be a lot of care home anecdotes first). Curry tonight. I’m being treated royally.
Update. Daughter returned and I was presented with a hamper full of cheese from the local farm shop cheese room. A couple of bits have been devoured for lunch and I am now snoozing in the sun with an audiobook.
Had a message from elder son (who’s in the UK) first thing this morning our time and a happy Father’s Day greeting from younger son when he woke up.
Other than that it’s been a normal Sunday – wife does volunteering on a Sunday morning and so it was easier for me to throw dinner together (a spatchocked chicken with harissa, peppers and onions).
We’ll go out for dinner as a celebration next weekend when the crowds are less and the prices are normal.
Spatchcocked. Ooh yeah. Tremendous word!
Father’s Day in Germany is on Ascension Day – I got given lovely homemade cards, a bottle of beer and some chocolate. Today’s a day to remember my dad, though it’ll be 19 July when our family will all be together to commemorate him as it’ll be a year since he died.
My daughter is still sleeping and will be into the afternoon in all probability. She had a complete meltdown last night worrying about various things so we shall see how she is today.
She is normally very thoughtful on such “holidays” though. We have a tradition of playing mini golf on this day, weather is beautiful so hopefully we shall do so again. I picked up my own present yesterday and handed it to her, it is the “Who the hell …” book collated from Q magazine $4.99 in a thrift store.
Update, we did the mini golf and went for a meal at my local. I paid of course 😉
Long chat with my daughter who, having finished the second year of her animation degree, is climbing in Wales.
Card and some Guinness Zero from my son who has just moved home after deciding that his rather lovely, now ex girlfriend, wasn’t the love of his life after all. Stern words were had before his return and it’s ok so far.
Interesting to hear how other dads are celebrating today, thank you! My pic didn’t come up in my initial post but it was this T-Shirt.
Fabulous T shirt
The boy done well!
Agree – would love that.
That is both magnificent and very, very disturbing.
A chocolate orange, a bottle of Glenfiddich, and a lovely meal, cooked by two out of the three.
Pork tenderloin, rice with pomegranate, roasted broccoli and aubergine if you’re interested.
Cards, and a very nice quality Joy Division “Unknown Pleasures” tshirt as a joint present from the kids. Breakfast made by son who then had to leave as he was working today. Daughter moved out a year ago but visited this afternoon, and we went to see my Dad who only lives a 10 minute walk away. Roast beef cooked for me this evening. A really nice day…started this morning by welling up when I read son’s card, which read ” to my best mate.”
Middle daughter and youngest daughter arrived this afternoon with cards and book vouchers. Eldest daughter has a very nasty bout of something “covidish” at the moment – she stayed away which, frankly, was the best present she could bestow, given the circumstances…
I am so pleased they know we like clothes and food, so simple eh?
Card and two bottles of beer from son.
Card and two different bottles of beer from dog.
Card, chocolates and a gift card from granddaughter.
Cards and chocolates from grandson and great-grandsons.
Fillet steak dinner cooked by GLW.
Red meat, ale and chocolate. All-day breakfast of champions.
Great grand sons! Respect!!!!
A Facebook post and an Instagram thing, which is as much as I can expect given he’s 16,500km away…
Gifted by The Elder: a selection of Scooby Doo (and the gang, and the Mystery Machine) pin badges.
I’m going home later today to discover what The Younger got me.
Bought myself (from the cat) a two quid LP in Holt YMCA. Popmobility: the disco party record that helps you keep fit, complete with full set of instructional cards.

My son lives in Iceland so no present which is fine but he did send me a Father’s Day message very early in the morning.
My daughter lives in London and we were supposed to celebrate last week when she was due to come up for weekend. She was under weather so that had been postponed until next week. She did however send me a Rough Trade voucher which I will put towards the upcoming Marianne Faithfull box.
Update: a paint roller and pole to replace the one I broke decorating his bedroom.
A text message from the boy (with a reminder that my birthday present from them both was also a Father’s Day present – cheese and meat). A request for money from the girl…
A fried breakfast from the GLW – but happens most Sundays.
Did you hear the Radio6 presenter paying tribute to his dad, who was definitely listening, by playing Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Papa Don’t Take No Mess? Made me wonder if he’d listened to the lyrics.
I know there’s no lyrics to Papa’s Got a Brand New Pigbag but I can’t be the only person in the world that “sings” the title in their head.
I don’t do that but every time I hang out the washing with my wife, I hum the song.
Excellent!
