Thomas The Tank Engine has his 70th anniversary today – in years past the Bargepole residence was awash with his toys, books, videos etc.
Anyone else have memories or a song to share to mark the occasion?

The Rev Awdry lodged in a nearby pub* for a bit. There are some of his engine watercolours hanging on the walls of the bar.
(*) I hesitate to say “my local” as it’s in a different village. What was my local is now an Indian restaurant.
Not as old as Ringo then….
Same here – the videos, books and toys were both popular with my two boys (who have now grown out of Thomas).
Still find it funny / strange that to my kids generation, Ringo is more famous as the voice of Thomas than being the drummer of the most famous group in the world….
Yes remember riding on Thomas the Tank Engine open days, collecting presents from Santa (him not me,) enjoying a mince pie and a glass of alcoholic refreshment, (me not him)
By way of remembrance here is Reginald Gardiner reciting ‘Trains’
The theme tune to the animated series featuring Ringo Starr scans perfectly with the names of the trains in numerical order. Sang it to my boys for years *Thomas The Tank Engine, Edward and Henry, Gordon and James, Percy and Toby, Duck and Donald, Bill and Ben and Oliver etc……*
and as well as being the composer of Marmalade’s Reflections Of My Life and Rainbow he also composed the Thomas theme tune….take a bow Junior Campbell

My kids loved them too – so did I when I was a kid, come to that. But they were deadly for reading to your kids, I found – I used to have great difficulty staying awake.
