Many happy returns to our own dear @beany, who today is 21 for at least the third time. May the charity shops of the North continue to be filled with exotic records, all at 10p a pop. Mwah xxx

Girthday bleatings, Mr G!
(It’s not my birthday too!)
Beany says
You cheeky minx. I am, in fact, celebrating the 40th anniversary of my 21st birthday. Funnily enough I bought another copy of Don Estelle’s Time After Time LP yesterday for 50p and it is the first signed copy.
The messages have not stopped all morning and I have already had birthday greetings from Mahaksa Das, better known as Martin Cockerham from Spirogyra. He is up in Bolton to see his mum so I may meet him and get the latest news on his recording work with Richard Sinclair.
I have been out the last 2 nights so I shall be taking it easy today. I will be washing the dog shortly – not a euphemism I may add.
Moose the Mooche says
It’s my understanding that there are no unsigned Don Estelle records.
Moose the Mooche says
Happy birthday Beanster, by the way. Long may your grass whisper.
Moose the Mooche says
And here’s something from The Greatest Album Ever Made to celebrate.
Turn it up! Bring the noise!!

Beany says
At the latest count:
Don Estelle LPs 16 – signed 6
Don & Windsor LPs 10 – signed 2
Therefore I have lots of rarities.
Moose the Mooche says
It’s the CDs I’m thinking of, to be fair. Rarities are also “CDs bought from places other than random shopping centres”
I was mildly disappointed at the recent Trousers thread did not include any discussion of the “tight white” variety.
minibreakfast says
Tight-crutched morons in white trousers!
Moose the Mooche says
I used to have some white jeans. I wonder if he meant me?
Beany says
When I met The Don in the Middleton Shopping Centre I don’t think CDs had been invented. I wonder what my signed Bobby Crush CD is worth in the current financial climate? I understand such commodities are a good investment in times of uncertain exchange rate, erm, uncertainties.
Moose the Mooche says
The Don.
“You come to me on the day of my daughter’s wedding, you don’t call me Lofty…”
Beany says
Jo just sent me this clip. YAY!
retropath2 says
Hope you do the Stanley at some stage, which indeed may be a euphemism, or, if your dog is called Stanley, blatant rudery. Us pisces have to stick together. (Shameless prompt)
Beany says
My dog is called Maiha thank you very much. It is also the birthday of Clare Lindley of the mighty and dear departed Stackridge. Goosebumps ahoy!
Kaisfatdad says
Happy Birthday Beany! Have a good one!
Here’s some Finnish cowboy music to kick your party off.
Beany says
This comes close to the Greatest Record Ever Made. Watch the short clip to the end.

One word:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!

Appee Burfdee, Beanster
Surely the “best album ever released” was Captain Beaky and His Band.
From Volume II – The Trail Of Hissing Sid
Moose the Mooche says
Shall I make a tiresome joke about Captain Beefheart?
Locust says
This was prime time entertainment in Sweden when I was growing up. Three singing farmers doing animal noises and playing rock’n’roll on the scythe…here they are, singing their two big hits, just for you! Bröderna Djup (“The Djup Brothers”) – Vi bor på landet (“We live in the country”)/Lien (“The Scythe”).
Happy Birthday, Beany!

Beany says
I shall dwink your shorts until I’m thick and then I shall cwy myself to sweep.

hope it’s a good one, chum.

Happy Birthday, Beany. Your present from me is a part-share in a nuclear waste disposal facility for your record collection. It will be stored under oil, 9m of solid lead, heavy industrial tyres and packing peanuts, then popped in a cardboard box.
Amazon say they welcome the opportunity to cut down on their usual packaging costs.
Beany says
Gee thanks D.Bob. I know you are only jealous of my attempt to preserve such rare and wonderful artefacts for the nation. Someone has to and I take this onerous task upon my shoulders reluctantly.

Happy Birthday from the Mahavishnu Orchestra – a unique rendering, from an audience recording of the Mk3 line-up in 1975. Whoever taped it was no doubt thinking ‘At some point, Beany will enjoy this…’

Marvellous Colin. I almost spotted a tune in all that widdly feedback noodling.
Colin H says
And did you notice the snatch of Tom & Jerry music at the end? It’s almost like YOU had been there asking for requests….
Declan says
Happy birthday M8
Beany says
I’m currently shaking my booty to that one. Also my bottom.
Beany says
Dave Gilmour is 70 today. This is about as close to new music as I dare go without risking spontaneous combustion.
attackdog says
Happy birthday old bean. What would The Afterword , this place of progressive thought, cultural appreciation and sophistication, what would it be without your considered contributions on all things Don Estelle, Max Bygraves, er, Ken Dodd and, err of course Bobby err, err, Crush?
Beany says
Let us not forget Bobby’s greatest success as a songwriter was penning the music and lyrics for Keith Harris and Orville’s hit “Orville’s Song”, which reached no. 4 in the UK singles chart.
He also appeared in the ITV drama/sitcom/crapfest as the character Billy Sparkle, a name adopted by the drummer of Stackridge on their early LPs.
