Independently (before seeing this thread), I am as we type 26 minutes into this and was all set to post it here…

I meant to add – I think Aura is a much under-rated album, arguably belongs with the great Gil Evans albums.
I’m going to be controversial and post one he didn’t actually play on. It was co-authored with Gil Evans and it’s brilliant.
So difficult to choose but I’ll go for a track from (possibly) my favourite Miles album :

There was a piece in The Times today to mark Miles’ 100th centenary with their choice of his best albums. ‘Mademoiselle Mabry’ was picked from “Filles de Kilimanjaro” and the piece mentions that it includes the motif to Hendrix’s ‘The Wind Cries Mary’. More intriguing is that Miles’s second wife, Betty, (her face is on the cover of the album) introduced Miles to the funk and rock sounds of the era and he divorced her a year later with accusations that she had an affair with Hendrix.
Miles is Composer of the Week on Radio 3 this week. John Coltrane is also 100 this year. That milestone isn’t getting anything like the coverage Miles’ birthday has. I hope that changes.
I don’t have a favourite Miles track, or even album. I’m posting Freddie Freeloader simply because I was thinking about it earlier today.
A Miles Davis non-album single from 1970 (I have a copy) – in which he almost predicts a slow-motion version of the ‘Starsky & Hutch’ theme.
From a largely forgotten album – pretty Miles – I love it.

Mate of mine plays in a recently formed jazz funk rock combo and is considering getting his bass refinished and asked me for my opinion on colours. I said “how about kind of blue”. Arf.

I think Bill made a pretty good job of retaining the essence of it in his remix.
The anniversary prompted me to a count-up within my LP/CD collection. I hadn’t realised I have more than twenty of his albums.
I have loads, but there are still plenty of gaps.
472 Miles items in my collection, including all his albums plus numerous bootlegs and concert recordings.
So not one of your favourite artists then.
