Venue:
Thekla, Bristol
Date: 09/02/2023
Haven’t logged in here for a while because I haven’t done much for a few years (for obvious reasons) but finally getting back on (off?) the wagon…..and what a great way to start. I think a @Rigid_Digit mention here got me onto HH, and it was love at first listen (thanks Ridge!) A new album and tour just launched and last night he was playing the Thekla – like many acts he seemed surprised it was actually a vessel. Anyway. Back on the boat for the first time since 2018 for me….and great to be back. Brilliant show – characterful, clever indie pop (you can find the songs online if you are interested), and much rockier live than I was expecting. Left feeling hot, sweaty and excited … in a good way. More please!
The audience:
Usual Thekla crowd, 6 Music types, couples.
It made me think..
This, whatever it is, is improving.
Ha – just realised I didn’t actually spell out his name (out of practice)! Hamish Hawk. By way of apology, here’s this;
I saw him last Friday in Manchester & he was fantastic. A really great artist & it is pleasing to see him do a decent sized tour, I hope he carries on the trajectory. They also did a fantastic Talking Heads cover that rocked!
My partner commented that in the venn diagram of The Smiths & The Divine comedy you will find Hamish Hawk. I can’t disagree with her on this
The Venn Diagram also has a bit of Scott Walker too
@seanioio – Was the Talking Heads cover the last song? Racking my addled brain to recognise it!
of course !https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkwfxaBZI70
Isn’t the internet wonderful 🙂
That guitarist needs to ask his mum to let his turnups down.
like trousers, like brain – to coin a phrase? 😉
New album is none too shabby.
Only got a download at the moment – physical product delayed til end of Feb.
@Rigid Digit. Agreed and thanks again!
Me too. His previous have been consistently good, so I preordered this one.
He is/was playing Cambridge Junction but I’m not quite at post-covid-indoor-gig comfort levels yet.
I got my download too ahead of release and I love it especially Bridget St.John and Grey Seals. I had heard a couple of songs on 6Music and was taken by him. I don’t like Divine Comedy so I am not entirely sure of that comparison.
You lost me at Divine Comedy……. ;-(
