There might be some fans on here of GBV (Guided By Voices). Never really broken out of cult status with their lo-fi take on art rock. For the cognoscenti, they are playing their first U.K. show for 15 years in the Village Underground, London on Wednesday 5th June. Tickets on sale this Friday

Heard:
Finally caught up with Olivia Chaney – Shelter after it appeared on a few year end lists. The Joni Mitchell comparisons are obvious but wrong. I think they are based on the register of her voice rather than the actual song composition. Notwithstanding there are a couple of exceptional songs on the album.
Also Khruangbin – loving the woozy feel.
I also picked up an extended ep by an Israeli funk band called The Sandman project. Definitely more Arabic sounding but a great groove.
Oh and a Best of Ethiopiques which is lovely.
Sorry but Dylan’s More blood more tracks (single disc) is completely superfluous. No improvements on the originals. Feel sorry for those who wasted their money on the mega box.
Seen:
Mary Poppins was bloody lovely. Watched it Christmas Eve with our daughter and her boyfriend. Wife and I were in bits in places but set us up nicely for Christmas day and in many ways was a highlight of the holiday.o
Also The old man and the gun. Redfords last film apparently but for me the highlight was Cissy Spacek’s performance.
And I watched Roma on Netflix. Started very slowly but was engrossed before the end and the cinematography was marvrllous.
Read: Too busy to be busy reading but have started Robert Plant biography which is so far not bad but a little bit lacking in personal involvement from the man himself.
Have a few other books to read from Xmas gifts – at current pace should get through them by this time next year.
No idea how the fuck this has gotten on here and not blogger takeover site.Oh well guess no-one will read it now?
But thank you for contributing to my thread 🙂
It has not been going down like hot potatoes!
Perhaps Steve T was guided by voices?
Guided by the wrong voices.
