Slow Horses is terrific TV. Plenty of action, good script, good characters well portrayed, black humour, interesting locations etc. Well worth watching.
Best to mute the sound during the titles though, beginning and end, because the title music is godawful. At first I thought it was some young herbert channeling Mick Jagger (badly), but then I realised it was actually ol’ Mick himself. Hell’s bells..
I suppose Apple’s marketing bods thought, what with the way they were going to hype it, it would be good to have a Star sing the title song. Someone of standing, like Mick Jagger f’rinstance. Unfortunately, the end result is not exactly Mick’s finest hour. Far from it. His voice is all over the place. It sounds to me like he knocked it off quick, grabbed the cheque and scarpered. He must have known it was below par but he obviously didn’t care.
The song is rubbish anyway, mind you. Not sure who else could have turned it into something decent.

Torture time!
Good grief. The best thing about it is the 45-second length.
There’s a fair bit of Iggy’s The Passenger in there.
To be honest, I was expecting worse.
I really don’t think it’s that bad. It outstays its welcome after ep.1, but that’s what the skip button is for.
I worked on a movie where David Bowie knocked out a lousy “for the money” title song. It’s pretty common.
Millionaire Mick thought “Nice little earner, I’ll just pop this one out”? No he effing didn’t – he actually thinks it’s a good song!!
Goddess in theDoorway outtake
What movie/song?
Cool World “It’s A Cool Cool World”
Ah…Real Cool World. I think it’s ok.
There’s a lot of over-busy production doing the heavy lifting but, when heard as a bonus track on BTWN, it’s not bad.
Was the previous series “Wild Horses”?
Mild Horses
‘orses for courses.
Slow horses couldn’t drag me away. Because they’re too bloody slow, the lazy sods.
I enjoy watching re-runs of Sharpe now and then but God the background music is crap: any old library music with a lot of guitar noodling.
Library music can be much better than that – eg the stuff they ended up using on Holy Grail.
Just discovered that Prince Herbert’s love theme was by Peter Knight – that great arranger who worked with Scott Walker, Dusty Springfield and (appropriately) The Goons.
Off the top of my head, the biggest gap between the quality of the show and its theme tune I can think of is Seinfeld.
How can you possibly dislike the funkee sound of the slap bass setting on a DX7? makes me want to roll up the sleeves on my pastel-coloured jacket…
Nerd alert!
*pulls Moose’s mullet*
Terrifyingly, mullets – like fascism – have made a comeback.
(Sorry if I’ve offended any fascists with that comparison)
A pastel-coloured jacket?
Yeah – such a garment is best worn over a PUFFY SHIRT…
AAARROOOOOOAHHHH! ! AAARROOOOOOAHHHH!

Seems to me the music symbolizes Slough House very effectively.
I don’t mind it. The lyrics are “say what you see” turned up to 10, but the song is… OK.
I find that song just a bit more irritating with every episode I watch and sadly, the “skip recap” and “skip intro” buttons don’t obliterate enough of it for my liking.
It’s probably in Mick’s and the songwriter’s contracts that at least some of it must be audible every time. Grrrr.
