Maybe. But it is still a quality B side and released only last November. Great B sides don’t have to be a dim memory. And, ‘Tis A Pity She Was Whore is great, isn’t it?
Want me to wade in? Oh okay:
EatB – Ignoring the Shine So Hard ep, Way Out and Up We Go, Broke My Neck [Long Version}, Lips Like Sugar [Single Version], Bedbugs And Ballyhoo (Original Single Version), Angels And Devils (Live) ocht! and many more
Suede – To The Birds, HiRising, Bentswood Boys, Whipsnade and many many more
Haha, woke up this morning and put on the b-sides comp, without even thinking about it. Have been listening to nothing but Suede for the last 3 hours and then I see this.
Whipsnade is ace too. The We are the Pigs EP is Suede’s second-best record. Here, from one of the Wild Ones’ b-sides, is the last glorious blast of the Anderson-Butler Suede:
This is so groovy. It’s like a lost Pebbles garage instrumental track. Fruggin’ excellent. It’s a got a taste of Bert’s Apple Crumble by The Quik about it.
Only topped by their version of “He’s got the Whole World In His Hands” at Reading Festival….lyrically adapted to fit G W Bush. ….”he’s got exocet missiles in his hands…” if i remember rightly 😉
Dreams of Children too, which I think was technically a double A-side with Going Underground, but who remembers that now? Lisa Radley, B-side of Start, borrows the bass riff from its A-side. The Jam did a lot of proper B-sides.
Incidentally, I remember singles used to say something like ‘Roxanne B/W Peanuts’ on the cover. I assume that B/W means ‘backed with’? There was C/W as well I think.
Continuing the Paul Weller theme, “Solid Bond in Your Heart” was backed with the excellent “It just Came to Pieces in my hands” – my favourite Style council song of all.
Still not easily available on CD, this is ‘Baby Don’t You Do It’ (live at San Francisco 1971) from The Who – B side of ‘Join Together’ (from memory). An awesome performance – and its mostly drums and vocal…
New Order had form. Lonesome Tonight was on the flip of Thieves Like Us. Procession back up Everything’s Gone Green.
The Cure’s Mr Pink Eyes from Lovecats, The Exploding Boy from In Between Days, many others.
The Human League had so many ace Dare-era b-sides they ended up releasing an album of them.
And who could forget “Funky Combine, John!”, flipside to The Farmer’s Boys’ “Muck It Out”. here goes nothing… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOap_rbPgqc
I was going to suggest “I’ve Been Waiting For You”, but was thrown a bit by realising after all this time that it was actually a Neil Young cover rather than a Pixies original!
There’s a thread there perhaps, “Songs you only realised were covers many years later”…
In years gone by, when I were a lad, when it was all just fields etc etc
A lot of bands would invest time in producing a decent song fro the B-Side. Inveraibly this was a styand-alone, and not on any album.
The Jam were always great value for B-Sides (Butterfly Collector, Dreams Of Children, Liza Radley, Tales From The Riverbank, Smithers Jones, Carnaby Street).
Oasis delivered some fine B Sides too: Acquiesce, The Masterplan, Fade Away, Stay Young, Going Nowhere, Half A World Away.
During Sweet’s bubblegum Chinnichap period, they’d often have a self-penned belter on the B-Side. When they started putting these on the A Side, the hits slowly dried up (is there a lesson there?)
My choice: the flip side of “Running Free” (Iron Maiden’s debut single) – Burning Ambition
The Dole’s New Wave Love had this corker on the B-side, Hungry Men No Longer Steal Sheep But Are There Hanging Judges? Also a candidate for best song titles thread!
David Bowie released one recently!
‘Tis A Pity She’s A Whore
It`s got nothing on the `B` side of Napoleon XIV `They`re Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha`, it was the `A` side in reverse.
Bowie`s never matched the genius of that Tigger! ;))

Forgive me, I did forget “the shitter with the pout”. It’s the same old show, he,s a killer he’s a fast boy. Oh!
I’m off to reacquaint myself with it.
*flashboy

I do like it that the new blog is only a month old and “That shitter with the pout…” has already been quoted on two different threads.
B side to Revolution
B side to The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
…and should have been the A side.
Amen to that, sister! 😉
On the A side, Kicker Conspiracy and on the b-side….
Blur – French Song B-side to Tender
This is so groovy. It’s like a lost Pebbles garage instrumental track. Fruggin’ excellent. It’s a got a taste of Bert’s Apple Crumble by The Quik about it.
B-side of ‘Dominion’
@Walter, epic isn’t it, wasn’t it black jumpers for neck ware, fat goth chicks, mm,m, wasn’t it?
Only topped by their version of “He’s got the Whole World In His Hands” at Reading Festival….lyrically adapted to fit G W Bush. ….”he’s got exocet missiles in his hands…” if i remember rightly 😉
Tomahawk missiles I believe.
ah yes,….that makes more sense.
*Flash boy.

C/W = coupled with?
Coupled with? How sweet is that? Two songs sent to market, hand in hand, to meet whatever fate befalls them. Although the Alpha’s in charge of course.
Continuing the Paul Weller theme, “Solid Bond in Your Heart” was backed with the excellent “It just Came to Pieces in my hands” – my favourite Style council song of all.
Al Green – Strong as death (sweet as love)
Great title and one of Al’s finest – only ever released as a B-side.
The Clash had loads – the Prisoner, Jail Guitar Doors and this, my favourite:

Joy Division’s “Dead Souls” was originally the B-side of “Atmosphere” on the Sordide Sentimentale limited release 7″ single. And very fine it is too.
B-side of Smells Like Teen Spirit

New Order – they were so great. At the time of this single, they simply could do no wrong.
1963 – so good it became an A side seven years later.
obviously the Nirvana vid with the New Order reference is a cock up. How do you delete a post on here? Does anyone know?
No, I still don’t know how to delete, edit or post a picture.

Possibly the greatest B-side ever, this was still packing the dancefloor in the alternative clubs of Plymouth ten years after it was released…
It’s been played to death, but the B-Side of Rod Stewart’s “Reason To Believe” was a fairly memorable number.
I was going to go for the Floyd’s “Candy and a Currant Bun”, but that’s a bit too well known. Instead, here’s a great Roy Wood song only on a b-side:
Talking of B sides that were later remixed to become A sides, here’s one that, even as a B side, had a video made for it:

The Police – Visions of The Night b/w of Walking On The Moon
Uncool as f**k!
The Chameleons – Paradiso b/w Tears
Paradiso is a most very favourite Chams choon.
B-side of Street Spirit

B-side to the wonderful Ravers
There was a cracking B-side to Free’s My Brother Jake called Only My Soul.
As you’d expect it has a lovely bass line.
Hidden away on the back of “Here Comes Your Man”, just past the big quasar.

(“Into The White” – Pixies)
I was going to suggest “I’ve Been Waiting For You”, but was thrown a bit by realising after all this time that it was actually a Neil Young cover rather than a Pixies original!

You wonder what all the screaming fans made of the B-side of Reward.
Possibly their finest hour! Well, 4 minutes or so.
