Whenever Richard Dawkins spoke of Bertrand Russell’s teapot in space I’d always think of Daevid Allen and smile. I’ve spent many hours telling people how big an influence Gong must have been on Magazine. Some Camembert tonight.

Snap!
I will have the Teapot on all day in his honour.
I am wearing my “Russell’s teapot” t-shirt in homage. A sad loss, though it comes to us all. His was a life well-lived, and I am pleased to see that when I last saw Gong two years ago, he was still mercurially mad/ wise. Let us hope he continues to remain an inspiration.
On the Gong website there is a video of him reading this poem on 27 Feb. Fare thee well.
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
