In the excellent Uncut Ultimate Guide to Steely Dan I have learned much about this wonderful band that I wasn’t already aware of.
When David Palmer left after Can’t buy a thrill they lined up a number of possible replacements before they decided that Donald should perform the vocal duties. One of these was rather surprisingly Gerry Rafferty. Thank God they lost his number.

I once bought a Dan McCafferty solo album. On vinyl. A solo Dan McCafferty album on vinyl. I don’t recall it being much cop.
I went all the way to Manchester WH Smith for this. Zero copies. 😼

Maybe they are placing limited orders now, as loads of Tom Waits UMGs lie unbought and unloved on the shelf.
On the point @SteveT made about Rafferty, I was gobsmacked. I wondered how they considered how he could or would fit in, in any way whatsoever.
I was in Edinburgh at the weekend, and I went to WHSmith in Dalkeith, Fort Kinnaird, The Gyle and Cameron Toll. 4 shops. Took me most of Sunday morning, and I haven’t even seen a single copy of any of the guides.
I can get them online but I hate paying 2.50 for postage, even though it’s cost me much more in petrol.
I’m giving up on Smiths. HMV or Fopp now, but I will be phoning first.
Anyhow StevieT isn`t our Gerry, err, not around any-more?
Gerry would’ve been good I reckon.
Sainsbury’s have the mag but £9 is a bit steep. Last episode I bought was £8, passed on it, for now.
Baker Street by the Dan. Intriguing thought. I love a bit of Gerry.
They would have been much improved – perhaps even tolerable! 😀
