A larger than life fella, and a really good director of live music on TV. I worked with him many years ago up at Tyne Tees on an iteration of The Tube, this one being a New Year’s Eve special with Macca (doing his Mick Green accompanied rocker thing), Travis, and Prince. The Little lad from Minneapolis arrived at reception with his fur coat clad entourage just as I was chatting with the geordie security guard.
‘Can I help you?’ He asked, as they approached.
‘Yeah, let ‘em know Prince is here’ said his manager.
The security guard spoke into his walkie talkie.
‘Hello? There’s a Mister Prince In reception’
My brother met Geoff Wonfor a few years ago through work (not music related). I had a ‘big’ birthday coming up, and my brother knew I’d been a fan of The Tube but had never managed to go to a recording. He persuaded GW to write out a birthday card to me, with a message about how he’d met many of his favourite musicians because of The Tube. I don’t know how my brother managed it, but I still have the card.
