Damn, so sorry to hear this.
I love Procol Harum. Always were so much more than Whiter Shade of Pale.
Gary Brooker had one of the great British voices.
Listening to Live with Edmonton Symphony – still sounds wonderful and what a drummer BJ Wilson was.

Yup, a bad day yesterday, with both he and Mark Lanegan gone. Both fine and very very different vocalists, both missed.

I googled.
The Edmonton concert was way back in 1971.
Was it common for rock bands to play with orchestras at that time?
Then they did a reunion with the orchestra in 1992.
Gary Brooker claimed he wrote that orchestral arrangement for Conquistador on the plane over from the UK.
What a voice – has that Steve Winwood soulful quality albeit somewhat gruffer. The album ‘A Salty Dog’ is probably their best and the title track arguable their finest moment
They were still doing an absolutely cracking version of that just a few years ago:
and Brooker’s voice was still breath-taking.
Awesome version. Shivers up the spine. I love this band. RIP Gary, and thank you for over half a century of great music.
A schoolboy’s pocket money could stretch to this, which ultimately led me down a rabbit hole of marvellous music.
His version of ‘Say It Ain’t So Joe’ is wonderful.
Great singer and amiable cove. I hope he’s turning cartwheels on the floor somewhere, but preferably not feeling kinda seasick.
