Obituary
Maybe a bit of a niche artist, but Cropredy regulars will likely know the name. A fine melodeon player, he played with Little Johnny England, the Phil Beer band and was an occasional in Ashley Hutchings later live Morris On forays. Bowel cancer.
Sorry although not surprised to hear this. He was a Costa Ibiza in April this year and played at least 4 times as his mates made sure he had fun. During Show of Hands’ duo set the sound crew came out from behind the monotor desk tent and lifted Gareth in his wheelchair onto the stage while he made Roman Chariot driver whipping motions. Simon Care played alongside him and they rollocked their way through Steve Earle’s Devils Right Hand.
He and Simon Care are quite the pair; their duet album is excellent. Includes the wonderfully entitled tune they each took into their separate bands, “Le Mystere de Box Vulgaire”. Both began as musicians for the Moulton Morris side, before following each other into the wider circuit. Care is still bagman, I believe, for the side.
Nick Cooke, Kate Rusby’s box player, is also a Moulton alumnus.
Were you there Vince..? We were, and it was lovely to see him given that respect.
I was, with Mrs Black. Our 3rd at Ibiza, plus we’ve done 5 at Costa Portugal. I thought this year’s Ibiza was a corker.
