Review:
I’m in need of a new game or two. This year I have played –
1 PUBG – I like it generally but I feel that I’m up against the odds when others seem to be able to shoot with far more accuracy than I can! Good fun though.
2. Sniper Elite 4 – Ok. It was a great price and quite entertaining.
3. Assassins Creed Origins – loved the graphics and surroundings but found the interaction dull. didn’t finish it.
4. Xcom2 – Bought it cheap. I was ‘stuck’ after about five minutes and gave up. This has never happened to me on a game before. I couldn’t muster the energy to pursue further.
5. Dishonered2 – Really enjoyed this game. I think this was recommended here – thanks.
6. No Mans Sky – I bough tthis after reading reviews on here. It’s still on my PC – I will no doubt revisit. I got a littlke tired of all the ‘mining’ and not moving forward enough.
I have enjoyed COD/MGS in the past, I don’t mind multiplayer games but I like to play the game solo first if possible.
I played all the above on PC. I have an Xbox but generally play more on PC.
The games don’t have to be released this year but I like fairly up to date graphics when playing.
Over to you – any idea’s/bargains around now. what have you enjoyed this year?

The most recent reboot of Doom is an absolute blast – graphics will still be fine esp on PC
Completely different is the mysterious story-driven Observation which you play a computer – yes, you are HAL. Would be brilliant on PC – I’m currently 2/3 through on PS4 and liking it though it is at heart a pc game. Excellent for suspense, not for trigger pulling (there is none).
Untitled Goose Game is getting all the indie plaudits, you play a bad-tempered goose annoying good folk in a small town.
On PS4 sorry I am looking forward to Ace Combat, the latest; Death Stranding (post-apocalyptic UPS delivery man fun). Non-exclusive is Outer Worlds which has got great reviews – Fallout in space.
Can’t really be bothered with COD any more though the recently remastered Modern Warfare is still the high-water mark of FPS games. The container ship. The ghillie suit level. Oh the memories.
Hope this helps @lunaman daughter also played epic western sim Red Dead Redepmtion 2 which I think has just come to PC – GTA in the West and similarly a massive massive time suck.

Cheers @Moseleymoles. Just got Doom for £3.99(CD Keys). Red Redemption2 has been on my radar for a while too.

Whatever you do, don’t invest in Just Cause 4 on the PC (via Steam).
I bought the damn thing hoping for a visual upgrade on JC2, which I’d already played. Fine, the visuals are suitably improved, but the thing crashes every time I try to play it, usually after around a minute.
I asked Steam for a refund, which was refused as too many days had elapsed since buying it. Never mind that my multiple attempts at using it had only racked up 46 minutes of screen time. Yes, thats approximately 40 attempts to see if it would run.
Piece of crap. And Steam are f*ckers.

Thanks for the heads up Vulpes Vulpes.

I’m not a massive gamer but this is the time of year that I like to hibernate with a game or 3.
This year I have enjoyed the Wolfenstein reboots ( not yet latest one though cos its had terrible reviews)
Division 2 – days lost to the first one and this is just the same. Still digging into if months later
Far Cry 5 & FC New Dawn – the second title us just an oversized DLC for the first but it’s great cult blasting fun

No Man’s Sky has received a couple of huge updates and it is much better than it was. Still not much of a single player game but much less irritating than it used to be. Another vote for Red Dead Redemption which is slow but absorbing also another vote for Far Cry 5. Great fun, who wouldn’t love a game where you can have a grizzly bear and a mountain lion as carnage creating allies.
Lastly The Witcher 3. Venerable now as far as games go but still a fabulous, life stealing experience especially with the added DLC. You should be able to buy all of them relatively cheaply second hand.

Second The Witcher. RPGs are my thing, and this is the very best. Fantastically detailed world, and top notch writing. The second piece of DLC alone is almost a full length game.
Also Dark Souls, which is quite possibly the greatest game ever made, but not for the fainthearted. It’s punishingly difficult, but never unfair, and the trade off for that is the genuine sense of achievement whenever you reach a landmark. Its systems and structure are unparalleled, just a superb piece of game design.
