On the latest Discover Weekly playlist that Spotify kindly compiled for me, this track appeared. To be honest I only knew the Carpenters version and was further surprised to learn that Klaatu were at one point suspected to be an actual undercover Beatles?!
I consider myself to have a pretty decent knowledge of all things Fab but I confess I wasn’t aware of this at all.

Canadian proggy types.
Not a bad album, and you can hear The Beatles comparisons, yet other tracks are probably closer to Bachman Turner Overdrive and/or The Beach Boys (and one of them sounds like it’s sung by The Muppets)
Word of Mouth rumour from 1973 – Capitol did their best to exploit this by issuing this album with no press information.
As is the way with all things Beatles in the US, the conspiracy theorists went to work finding links and “facts” that weren’t there.
(Including getting electronic voice comparisons done which confirmed the singers on this album were the same as the Beatles catalogue)

I was 17 years old, it was my first overnight “smoking” party, and after listening to John Martyn’s (then) very recent ‘Grace and Danger’ at about 4 a.m. a friend puts on selections from the first 2 Klaatu albums… it was a magical dawn.. I particularly remember coming down while listening to ‘Calling Occupants’ and ‘Long Live Politzania’.
30 years later I got hold of the 2 cd release of ‘3:47 EST’ and ‘Hope’.. I still love both these tracks and a few others from these albums…
(The Canadian band’s albums 1 & 2 were originally released in 1976/77).

Never heard The Beatles comparisons myself and I have the albums, Klaatu that is.
