We’re off to the pub with mates tomorrow night, and I’ve got tickets for Tull on Monday night, so a quiet Friday evening sounds like a plan. It’s chicken tikka masala, veggie samosas, garlic & coriander poppadums, pilau rice, several bottles (I’ve already had the first) of St. Austell’s fabulous ‘Proper Job’, and a couple of episodes – at least – of ‘Father Ted’ from the spiffo boxed set. We are on to episode 4 now on our, ooh, probably fifth run through.
Whatcha up to yerselves tonight?
Off to see Arcade Fire. Should be good.
I’m going on a Marcella catch-up binge.
I’ve just started to cook “Unhealthy Friday”: Veggie burgers, cheese-topped buns, fried mushrooms, oven chips and baked beans.
I’m drinking tea at the moment, we’ll move on to something stronger later, possibly G&T, possibly beer, then red wine (experimental purchase from Majestic).
Some kind of nibbles will go down with the G&T / beer. Probably Tyrrell’s crisps.
Listening to the “Guitarcast” to catch the sound of Mrs Attackdog’s dog (see “Your last three online purchases”). Just the thing so far!
Later it’ll be chocolate cake and the last episode of the recent “Shetland”.
Fish n chips, a couple of gins, and much pathetic coughing and sniffling.
Currently listening to Whitney’s I’m Your Baby Tonight LP, bought at Sunday’s car boots.
Just cooked sea bass with pak choi, about to bath the kids and get them to bed, hopefully before The City and the City starts on telly – loved the book so looking forward to it. Some Leffe chilling in anticipation.
I (generally) don’t drink beer) or anything alcoholic) on Friday anymore. It disturbs my sleep so much that it ruins Saturday. I will be watching the end of the golf then maybe moving on to episode 5 of Salamander. Not sure what I will eat but I may indulge in a reasonably healthy fruit smoothie.
I had no problems with the beer.
But you should have seen the dreams I got from the tikka massala.
I slept terribly anyway.
Just acquired my fourth cold since Christmas, so will be tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle, a LemSip, and possibly the new series of HIGNFY if I can stay awake that long.
Fourth? I thought I was doing well getting three.
I am impress!
I nearly had the top off the bottle of Youngs Chocolate Malt Stout when daughter appeared asking if boyfriend could get a lift home later. Bloody kids! Mrs Picture has done chicken Dhansak and I’ll get a glass of Californian Merlot in later.
Made a paneer, black bean and carrot curry thing. Not bad.
Bottle of South African semillon. Quite acceptable.
Now about to move on to select a bottle from my extensive range of gratifyingly expensive grappas.
I will then fall asleep on the sofa and start snoring like a buffalo, missing the second round of the US Masters.
Mrs duco will try unsuccessfully to wake me when it’s time to go to bed.
Ooh grappa.
I still have an unopened bottle I bought last year that I had forgotten about.
I may have a small dram later!
Indeed. Grappa. Ooh and thrice ooh.
Distilled by the Devil himself.
*shudders*
Roast Chicken & Paella scoffed.
Beer staring at me enticingly (I must resist). Definitely be downing a few tonight – need to drive somewhere first.
Plan is:
A bit of reading, a bit of writing, check TV for something to watch, give up and watch that Indie thingy from BBC4 last week, and then continue my foray into British Gangster films of the 90s with Love, Honour and Obey.
Pretty Things S.F.Sorrow currently playing
@rigid-digit
Roast Chicken AND Paella?
And any decent beer?
Only one meal (honest). Roasted a chicken, ripped it off the carcass and bunged it in the paella.
Beerwise: Brewdog King Pin, Brewdog Dead Pony Club and Einstock (Icelandic lager – very nice).
A couple of Boddingtons, and the evening was founded off with one or two (five) glasses of Buffalo Trace bourbon
And you’re awake at 8.
Respect.
*makes note never to diss the stiff fingered one*
Goodness me that is good going!
Makes my two cans of Camden Hell and the end of a red a bit shameful. Though had to be up to take wife to airport and spend rest of the day painting doors.
Just been bowling and to Nando’s to celebrate return of Twang Jr from school trip to China. Back home listening to remaster of “Nutz Too” by Nutz (my favourite album when I was 17) and starting to contemplate G&T. Later we have last night’s “Designated Survivor” to look forward to.
“school trip to China”
Ruddy heck.
Mine?
Fucking Bruges.
Mine? A mud slide in Lincolnshire. Mind you on the overnight I saw my first ever porn mag so I learned something at least.
Snowdonia was as far as my school was prepared to take us.
Chip shop, Motogp practice, a break while Mrs Fish has her soaps on….then the highlight of my evening….Farcry 5.
Tomorrow, my first proper bike ride of the year, so dying later.
Mushroom risotto, Van, couple of beers, Homeland on catch-up, and looking forward to the weekend. Nice.
Similar to you, Vulp – just finished some work, first bottle down (lagerish stuff), second awaiting and chicken jalfrezi on the hob. Hoping for some Scandinavian crime drama to go with it.
A big ol’ plate of oven chips with HP Sauce, salt & vinegar just finished. Just started on a pleasant bottle of SarthEfrican Chenin Blanc. Charles Mingus’ “Pithecanthropus Erectus” coming out of the speakers. Further inroads into Robert Mason’s “Chickenhawk” will be made later.
Wife is away in morning for a weeks juicing (stoppit) and yoga in Portugal. So while she packs and rechecks the weather forecast, it’s Steaks ( seared briefly and then done in the oven) baked pots, mushies, toms and salad. Alright actually.
A couple of cans of Camden Hells lager and then finishing off a very acceptable Aldi red. The Chills on the pod.
Decorating on the list for the second week of half term.
Hammond, baby new potatoes, peas and grilled tomatoes washed down with a Stella.
Masterchef and HIGNFY both addictive.
Then a cheeky bowl of Waitrose blood orange sorbet. If you haven’t tried it please do it is divine.
Fucking Gammon not Hammond.
Either way…. what a Friday night you’re having!
Not judging.
First week back at work after 4/52 “holiday” (aka step-dters stroke) and thus knackered. A southern fried chicken steak with loadsa grains hit the poot, along with most of a Thornbridge Jaipur modern party 8 from Tesco. (£12 for supposed 7 pints. I’m well fuddled after about 4.)
Telly has been the superb series 1 Wolf Creek, better than either of the fillums.
Isn’t Thornbridge Jaipur about 7%? Not surprised you’d be fuddled after four.
Had a couple of enjoyable pints of Jaipur in the Station Tap in Sheffield, while visiting.
Correction. It’s 5.9%. Not a session beer, though.
I was eyeing a keg of Jaipur myself last night – friends around tonight. Likewise, I figured that a few pints of 5.9% beer before we’d had anything to eat was probably a bad idea.
Where’s your sense of adventure?!
I am pleased to discover today I barely dented the tin as it still feels half full. (Or is it half empty?) Still feel fuddled tho’.
Well it’s Saturday morning here now, but Friday night was the first night of the Singapore Jazz festival…..
Ducked out of work early and got there as it opened at 5pm, which brought the advantage of being able to snag a couple of huge bean bags they had out on the raised platform area. Only moved from them to get food and drinks.
First up a Singapore artist, Weish, doing vocal loops into her electronic box of tricks. Enjoyed but wouldn’t be one I’d rush out to buy the album.
Next up, GoGo Penguin. A huge favourite on record and they didn’t dissappint with an hour long set. What can be better than chilling out as the sun sets, sat on bean bags with a glass or two of Pinot listening to GoGo Penguin…….
Couple of solo artists next – Brazilian acoustic guitar from Paulinho Garcia and then piano based songs from Frenchman Sebastien Tellier. Both good in their own way,
Final act was Austria’s Parov Stelar, (who I believe is a producer with added artists live). Trad jazz with club beats (I think it’s called Electro Swing ?). Great fun and had the crowd on its feet dancing away (even us off our aforementioned bean bags). Whenever you get a trio of saxophone, trombone and trumpet all moving about in sync, you know you’re in for a fun time…..
All in all a great evening. Back again tonight for Lalah Hathaway and Jamie Cullum.
Last night now, but tea was stir fried veg and noodles with some vegetable gyoza on the side. No booze, as I’m expecting a heavyish night tonight as some of our friends are visiting and staying over. Spent the rest of the night writing a letter from the tooth fairy to my daughter, and enjoying the heck out of the new Daniel Avery album. I do have a shiny DVD of Shin Godzilla lined up to watch, but didn’t make it last night.
You’re not wrong about “Proper Job.”
Have you come across its more-alcoholic brother “Big Job?”
It’s only sold in bottles and the one I had in the local pub was extortionate to say the least (about £4.70) but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the experience.
Otherwise … coffee in deli, curry, white wine, St. Helens v. Hull on TV, read the “Get Back” book from the original “Let It Be” box set – something I don’t think I’d ever done before.
There is something almost prophetic about calling a beer Big Job. The unfiltered Jaipur had much the same result.
Quick hello to The Light’s daughter, on a flying visit from uni, then met friends in town for Indian food and a Kate Rusby gig. Textbook ( particularly the second half of the show when we moved to some empty seats near the front, where our view of Kate wasn’t obscured by a tall bald man with a head shaped like a very wide lightbulb).
It was SCAB night (sossinge, chips and beans) because I’ve been eating curries, chillis and pasta stuff all week. Bottle of Shiraz and a few whiskies before falling asleep in front of Cardiff v Wolves.
Sausage chips and beans accompanied by two slices of bread’n’best is the pinnacle of human civilisation.
In other news, I have hyperlipidemia.
I went on my second 10 mile walk of the week, catching up with an old friend and walking to a dog friendly pub and back. Two pints consumed (oh, alright then, three pints consumed) and back home by 9pm.
Spent the early part of the evening doing admin stuff for my Bowie podcasts, then to a local bar to help console a pal who’d just been dumped by her boyfriend, with the universal panacea of red wine. Was looking forward to having a Bowie-break after the past few weeks, walked into the bar where they’d *just* started playing the 2 disc ‘Nothing Has Changed’ compilation over the stereo. Was a fine evening tho, pal duly consoled by the wine and chat and a lock-in courtesy of the very friendly barman, who looked like he was well on his way to becoming my friend’s next love-buddy, when I left them to it around 2am
