I skimmed through the video, but it’s not for me. I think that’s down to Michael Sheen. Yes, he’s clearly a talented actor, he becomes whichever famous person he’s playing, he’s a big contributor to good causes, etc., etc. – but I just can’t warm to him. He was excellent in Frost/Nixon, though, and a few other bits and pieces.
Considering how important the NHS is to so many people and to the country’s infrastructure and character, I’m surprised that so few dramas have been made about its earliest days and about Bevan’s hard work.
Well, I watched it and once again I come to the conclusion live theatre doesn’t work on a screen, at least a TV screen. Somehow when you enter an auditorium you forget about the small stage, the theatrics, you suspend disbelief at the artificiality and just sit back and enjoy. Not possible, at least for me, on the telly. “Why are all these people shouting, what’s with all this silent-movie over-acting?” I’m sure I’d have walked out of the NT saying “Wasn’t that great” .
I saw ‘Girl From the North Country’ on stage in 2018.
Coming at it from ‘Dylan’ and not ‘the theatre’, I thought, because of the choice of songs as much as anything else, it was pretty poor. Well, pretty dull.
Very soon I’ll be seeing it on the big screen.
Might help the story, not sure how it’ll help the songs…
I saw it in a live screening in our local cinema. I thought it was amazing, insightful and moving. but I’m a Welsh socialist. I’d say – cast it to the biggest screen you can and watch it all the way through if you can.
Can’t wait to see it. Nye Bevan is one of the greatest British political heroes of the 20th century. I am also Welsh and lean left, and was born same place as he was so I guess I am biased too. I also think Sheen is brilliant
Tried to get tickets for the staged version on three separate occasions and was disappointed to find was always fully booked. A case of ‘Nye’, ‘Nye’’ and thrice ‘Nye’

Thanks, Gary! It’s raining all day here so rather than watch a Hallmark Christmas movie, this will do nicely.

Be warned: your viewing room will get extremely dusty in the last ten minutes.

Would’ve been much funnier if you’d dumped the first sentence changed the thrice to twice…
Just sayin’…
Nah, mine was funnier. You wanna fight?
