I don’t know if he is an awful manager but he certainly hasn’t yet proved himself in the Premier League. I doubt he will be in the thinking of the owners at all
Well all the previous managers couldn’t do it for a decade. Your granny night guide them to second place but probably not an unbeaten season to take the title from their arch rivals.
Heavy Metal fan too.
I do hope he’s in charge of the soundtrack in the dressing room. Feels like it at times with the energy and urgency Liverpool sometimes play with.
Has spent a whack of cash, but not to Manchester (of both colours) levels and has delivered urgent, attacking football.
Now the bookies will start to circle plucking names out of the air and attaching the odds – what price Steven Gerrard?
(won’t happen …)
Waking up to that news this morning knocked me for six, didn’t see it coming at all. Smart money seems to be on Alonso, I would prefer someone with more experience. He is basically irreplaceable though. Bad day
I don’t share the affection for Klopp. I find him impossible to like. Not the nice guy he likes to project. I think he radiates passive aggressive energy with that angry grin of his and has been as much a bully and player of officials as any manager in modern football. His teams have played some good football while also, along with City, perfecting the fouling on the halfway line to stop counter attacking and the persistent diving to “earn” a penalty – take a bow Mr. Salah! I’ll be glad to not have to put up with his presence from next season. One of my favourite soap operas is writing out one of my least favourite characters. Win win!
Liverpool are one of those 4 or 5 teams I, for no logical reason, dislike intensely. Klopp, the bastard, is likeable, fun, sincere and his sides play great football. As I said, a bastard.Good riddance.
2008… already out of the F.A. Cup… knocked out of the UEFA Cup… did not win the League… so that’s ‘two’. Sixteen seasons since then… four trophies a season give or take not playing in Europe or playing twice in Europe when being shifted over to the Europa Cup from the ‘Champions’ League. Hmm… I make that ’64’.
Tottenham Hotspur plc have entered 66 competitions without winning one. That’s hilarious.
I have a lot of time for Klopp. I know clubs media departments have a big say in what you see but, I think, you can still tell when someone is decent. Klopp is decent. A great football manager who has, at the very least, delivered brilliantly whilst having decent funds. There are managers who have had more and delivered less. He has done that over a decent period of time as well.
It is a shame that he will not work in England again (unless he goes back to Liverpool). I reckon he will be the Germany manager after they perform poorly at the Euros.
One thing I don’t much care for in sport is the tribalism. We should recognise the greats when it is time. Klopp is a great manager.
Missed Rock ‘n’ Roll and the 60s… clear enough for you? You’re not alone, but you could be a bit sharper.
I like Klopp because he’s a socialist and would, ironically when Liverpool were winning the League, have been a much better leader of this country during Covid than the fat bastard we had.
More football fun today, and a notable F.A. Cup tie ‘after’ Christmas… a considerable rarity that… namely, Maidstone’s fantastic win at Portman Road.
Incidentally, the best value football you can get is at their level… Conference South.
As the League Cup Final is another write-off this year, Chelsea v. Liverpool, a complete waste of everyone’s time, hopefully the F.A. Cup will prove to be different.
Well it’s his job to be passionate about the club, I would expect that, he managed to galvanise the support early on even before the success came. Something somebody like ten Hag has completely failed to do.
Well, a mate of mine is Liverpudlian and his parents are in a care home there. Klopp visited the home before Christmas and asked his dad as whether he was enjoying the party. He replied he was but he shouldn’t be at the Liverpool do as an Evertonian. Klopp replied that no one was perfect and then spent 15 minutes chatting about Everton players past and present. That’s the perfect level of tribalism.
I’m surprised at the number of people suggesting that Steven Gerrard should be the next Liverpool manager. I didn’t know we had so many Manchester United fans on the site.
I don’t have any affection for LFC, but I can’t help liking Klopp.
He’s very much his own man, has a good sense of humour and believes in a world outside of the game of football.
He will leave a large void & a replacement who can fit with the ambitions AND self image of the club will be very hard to find.
I wish him well.
The club would be monumentally stupid to appoint Gerrard, so I’m obviously hoping they do just that.
The best manager in the world over the last decade. Huge loss for Liverpool, feel for those fans.
Klopp’s teams have played consistently exciting, risk-taking football. They’re excellent to watch. He also clearly got the support and the city.
Klopp also understands, as some still clearly do not, that winning trophies – while very nice – is not the most important thing in football. Playing the game with a bit of style is what really matters, and what will ultimately be remembered. Football that gets you out of your seat.
Be interested to see the effect this announcement has on the players over the rest of the season. Could spur them on, but it also adds some extra pressure.
Zero chance Gerrard replaces him. Doubt he’ll even be on the list – think it’s pretty well understood that whatever success he had at Rangers and Villa was largely down to Michael Beale, and that form at Villa collapsed more or less as soon as Beale moved on. Don’t see Liverpool fishing him out of the bucolic splendor of Al-Ettifaq at this stage.
He’s been great for Liverpool and he will be missed, certainly. We’ve definitely not seen the last of him.
As for Liverpool – is it time for Stevie G to come in?
Gerrard could come into the backroom as assistant or some form of coaching, but as Manager – nope. Don’t think he’s up to the job yet.
Can’t see Stevie G ever getting offered a job at that level or
making a go of it even supposing he was
Gerrard is an awful manager- Liverpool can’t choose him just for sentimental reasons.
Klopp will be hard to replace.
I don’t know if he is an awful manager but he certainly hasn’t yet proved himself in the Premier League. I doubt he will be in the thinking of the owners at all
Ask any Aston Villa fan what they think of him as a manager.
He did well in Scotland but my Granny could win the SPL.
Your Granny could lead Aberdeen to the league title? Any relation (however distant) to Alex Ferguson?
Well all the previous managers couldn’t do it for a decade. Your granny night guide them to second place but probably not an unbeaten season to take the title from their arch rivals.
Hello? Is that Granny T? It is? Great. Partick Thistle here. Listen, we have a proposal for you …
“Och, I’m afwy sorry – I’ve just accepted the Aberdeen job….”
Granny T, where are you?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68039657
He had some success at Rangers, which by any definition is a big club. I don’t think he would take a second fiddle role at Liverpool.
Aston Villa … started well but the cracks soon shone.
With the greatest respect, Rangers are a big club in Scotland but with very little competition
What are you smoking?
Gerrard isn’t a good manager. See also: Lampard, Rooney.
General rule of thumb: a top notch player rarely * translates to a great manager
* yes there are exceptions to this rule, but for every Kenny Daglish, there is also a Roy Keane
Heavy Metal fan too.

He will come back to Norwich…One Of These Days!
No way Stevie G.
Waking up to that news this morning knocked me for six, didn’t see it coming at all. Smart money seems to be on Alonso, I would prefer someone with more experience. He is basically irreplaceable though. Bad day
ROONEY IN!
Big Sam is available
So is Roy Hodgson, any minute now.
And Gareth “Mr Pragmatic” Southgate could be convinced
(as long as they re-sign Henderson, and bring in Maguire and Phillips]
A manager jumping rather than being pushed is a highly novel concept.
No, no, let’s get this right. Fat Frank, then Stevie G to ride in as the cavalry. Then Big Sam next March.
@MC-Escher
Imagine the hours of fun to be had by trying to accommodate both Stevie G and Fat Frank in the same managerial role

Fell off the Klopp love-in when he decided to jump on the pitch and get one of our players sent off a couple of seasons ago.
Liverpool are one of those 4 or 5 teams I, for no logical reason, dislike intensely. Klopp, the bastard, is likeable, fun, sincere and his sides play great football. As I said, a bastard.Good riddance.
I’ve got some football fun for y’all.

Have you got the wrong thread?

@Leedsboy
Are you some kind of “dodger”?
Not consciously. Even despise the joyless biscuit variety. And love soap and salad (not together though).
Damn! In common with several other AWers, I was hoping you were so that I/we could find out exactly what a dodger actually is or does
Missed Rock ‘n’ Roll and the 60s… clear enough for you? You’re not alone, but you could be a bit sharper.

@Jaygee – from what I can gather it seems to be someone who “dodged” some period of time due to being born at a different time.
Yours helpfully,
A Crucifixion / Great Fire of London / WW1 etc dodger.
@Leedsboy couldn’t agree more and seemingly a great bloke too.
But to be fair, Klopp has helped to propagate the tribalism by indulging in all the “this is Liverpool, this means more” bullshit.
Well it’s his job to be passionate about the club, I would expect that, he managed to galvanise the support early on even before the success came. Something somebody like ten Hag has completely failed to do.
