Love them or hate them, Foo Fighters are always entertaining and probably one of the best bands that I have seen live. They have been going for 25 years now – it only seemed like yesterday (well not really, but you know what I mean) that Nirvana were gracing our turntables, and yet now a quarter of a century later, the drummer’s “new” band (in which he is not even the drummer) are still going strong.
They have posted a film on YouTube looking back at their 25 years, which is good fun (plenty of taking the piss out of themselves) if you have a spare 25 minutes.
Anyway: Foo Fighters – love them or hate them ? Best bits etc etc
I was completely unaware of them till about 2005 when my young sons started listening to them. Over the next 5 years I saw them 3 times and each was just an astonishing event. Milton Keynes bowl topped the list. The just give the best show. Dont listen to their albums much these days but would see them live again in a heartbeat. Great band for me.
I’ve got a few CDs and like them when I hear them but I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan. I like Dave Grohl, obviously. I enjoyed the Sound City film.
Don’t hate them, but not particularly impressed. They seem to have become massively popular without making too much memorable music, and Dave Grohl is a c*nt.
* Except This is a Call is great and naturally Dave is really really really nice.
Don’t know a thing about them but any live clips I’ve seen are fun and Dave G seems to have taken on the mantle of ‘nicest man in rock’
I’ve seen them live too. Great evening / gig. The albums have been a bit mixed, but they’ve been around a fair few years. Their Best Of is a cracker.
I wasn’t a big fan of Banana (I found them a bit meh, but fairly good meh).
I bought The Foos debut album and maintain that “This Is A Call” is still one of the finest opening tracks ever.
Didn’t feel like I needed the second album, but found the third album in a Bargain Bin for 50p – There Is Nothing Left To Lose (apart from 50p). Good album, and also had the video track for Learn To Fly.
Seen live clips and always look committed, and many of their videos show a great sense of humour.
Can’t truly fault them – personable, make some great music, and sell in huge quantities
The Foo Fighters are just one of those bands who aren’t particularly on my radar but then I didn’t think Nirvana were that great either. I probably know one song by the Foos (I think it’s called Everlong, would that be right?) which isn’t bad but to me they seem to be the type of band who always come up on BBC Glastonbury coverage while I’m waiting for something else… I am very happy to admit that millions may disagree.
I wouldn’t object to not hearing their music again, they seem like a B-list act to me, but Dave Grohl has his heart is in the right place.
I love seeing those bits of Foos gigs where he invites kids to perform onstage. The rest, not so much.
There one of those ‘ok’ solid bands who always produce a decent but never groundbreaking albums. A few good singles and a lot of filler. Perfect stuff for compilations. Which is probably why they are so popular. They will appear in loads of Spotify playlists. Stuff like 90s indie, acoustic rock, mellow metal for a Tuesday tea time.
For some reason for a band I think are just ok. I seem to have seen them live about 5 or 6 times. Including that rather mental first Reading festival in the tent. Dave knows how to do festival gigs that’s for sure.
Dave Grohl, seems like a very nice guy….The music….nothing at all special, in a “couldnt really hum any of their tunes” way that would explain their popularity….but ho hum, it doesnt actually really matter, does it?
I saw them on their first UK tour, they were an absolute blast. Loud, tight and fun, resolutely there to entertain the audience. They deserve everything they have, it was all in place right from the start. Not always my taste anymore, but I kind of love them no matter what.
