I can’t hear it very well, cos my ears are deranged, but from what I can make out via headphones it sounds very much my cuppa. I’m a big fan of Welsh multi-instrumentalist Cerys Hafana (who isn’t?) and it seems similarish territory.
Just the other day I found that Hafana recently released a new song. The first time I’ve heard her singing in English. I like the video too. I like that it could be mistaken for a photograph, were it not for the slight breeze blowing the washing on the line and the glow of a fire inside the cottage.
And whilst speaking of folktronica and Harp and a Monkey , Andy Smith of said trio has recently released a solo album An English Village, think Public Service Broadcasting mixed with the essence of Cecil Sharpe, drum and bass sentiments as well as a soupçon of the BBC Radio Workshop. It will be in the top 3 of my end of year list and is available on Bandcamp and a physical release should be out next year.
Frankie is great. Album due next year.
In other folktronica news, or neo-trad as the bagpipe bands have it, Niteworks are breaking up next year, after a few final dates.
I kind of like it. but her opening vocals are not in tune or dont appear to be but it could be the echo she has put on them.
The opening violin is also discordant but gets better.
Yes. I noticed the violin didn’t sound too good at first.
Not my “thing” for home listening, but it’s O.K.
In a multi-artist live setting I wouldn’t retreat to the bar.
As far as I know she’s only released one EP which has the above song. It’s available, the EP that is, here,

Love it Ray.
Will explore further.

Talking of Welsh female singer people, I’ve recently been very much taken by Angharad Brinn who appears on the recent Cyan album (warning – prog rock)
I presume she has some history / other stuff, but I’ve not yet had chance to explore.
Lovely. This is rapidly turning out to be my favourite thread so far today.
Try this….
Gorgeous.
And here’s Hafana again, being very beautiful with a harp.
Folktronica was arguably invented by John Martyn messing about with his Echoplex.
Conversation re JM with my parents only yesterday (I had constructed a 1973 playlist in which he featured)
My mother: What a shame about John Martyn… he lost his leg.
Me: Yeah, and less importantly, he died!
I’m not unimpressed. My mother, even if she were still alive, wouldn’t have the first clue who John Martyn was, let alone that he lost a leg.
Yeah, I’m also very impressed Mr Moose.
Folktronica is a label that sits comfortably with Harp and a Monkey
I have a few, probably all Harp and a Monkey albums. They’ve not released an album in a while

That’s very interesting. I see it’s on Spotify. Gonna get the headphones on again later and give the whole album a listen.
I’ll investigate that album thanks Mr Bogart

Isn’t folktronica what Jim Moray used to do? I love his shoegazy take on Sprig of Thyme.
I gave him a lift home once. He drank black tea with brown sugar.
Yup.

Please remember thie video is from a live recording. There are no issues with the song on the E.P. CD.
No folktronica thread complete without a bit of Inge
As I listened to that, the dog started barking; random intermittent barks. Perfect. I thought it part the track.
Only random as far as you’re concerned. Dogs just don’t hold with all this time-signature nonsense.
