Interesting article in the LA Times with Lyndsey Buckingham, refueling the whole F Mac saga.
Lyndsey explains how the band firing him has made him an even better person. So that’s nice. Stevie says he was never fired, it was her what quit, but the band wanted her more than Lyndsey. Lyndsey explains that she would say that, wouldn’t she, on account of her being lonely and childless and not as nimble on stage as him. Mick has declined to support Lyndsey on account of Mick being so crap when it comes to managing his finances. Christine secretly supported him, but couldn’t say anything having only just gone and bought herself a nice two-up two-down in Walthamstow or somewhere. John has said nothing of any relevance (for quite some time now). The band’s manager, Irving Azoff (sic), says Stevie’s right and honest and truthful, bless. Well he would say that, reckons Lyndsey, cos he’s only motivated by money, the greedy tightwad.
Lyndsey sued the band asking for “lost wages, including the $12 million to $14 million he claimed he would have made in just two months on that 2018 tour” and accepted an out of court settlement. So that’s nice too.
And what’s even more lovely is that Lyndsey can still quote a review of his 2006 album “Under the Skin” that described him as a “visionary” — although “nobody knew it”. “Maybe that’s been a bit of a problem — feeling unseen” (insert teary-eyed emoticon).

Apart from Rumours, an album so bad as to be Mrs W’s favourite (she air-drums along with every track), I have never knowingly listened to anything from FMac after Peter Green left.
Great writing G, no need to click on the link now.
You should. It’s a rather uplifting insight into the level of humility receiving an out-of-court settlement can help bring about. A lesson for us all, I think.
Tell Mrs W I rate the drumming on Go Own Way as, like, only the best drumming ever in the history of everything*.
*I am using modern vernacular here as for some reason I suspect Mrs W to be considerably younger than your good self. Do forgive me if that’s an incorrect or willfully exaggerated assumption.
Go Your Own Way is, of course, her favourite. After one particularly energetic drumalong she asked “How on earth does he do that doof doof thing, it’s like he has three hands?”
I told her about base pedals and kick drums and stuff. She looked me straight in the eye with fresh respect. Shortly after we renewed our vows
She is indeed younger than me. I paid extra.
Dunno what gave it away. Your looks, perhaps. Although I do remember someone saying something about you being “a dirty old man” or something of the sort at one of the mingles once. I can’t remember the exact details (and nor should I be expected to, having never been to any of the mingles).
You’re married to a woman who air-drums?
And yet you’re always moaning? Blimey! Lottery of life, dude!
Air-drums to the worst record ever made (apart from Kid A). Feel my pain!
She air drums to The National Anthem?!
Respect.
I don’t even remember any drums in Imagine.
There is little worse in the first world than spoilt, overindulged children.
What about all those shops sellling cheap chicken and chips meals? Or having two different types of bicycle valves?
I personally have two different types of bicycle valve. On different bicycles, mind you.
Is just the chicken cheap, or the chips as well?
Chicken cheap. Chicken cheeeeEEEEAP!
It’s been a long week.
FWIIW, I have always loved the Tango in the night album.
Lindsey
Dang. He’ll be mortified when he reads this. I was concentrating too much on getting Stevey right.
I had a friend at university who swore blind that Stevie was the guy and Lindsey the girl …
Is it it a bird? Is it a bloke?
How the hell should I know?
Sorry I spoke!
……er, as you were
Haven’t a clue mate, how absurd.
(Makes mental note) ‘Darling, I’m not dumping you. I just need a spatial break.’
Sounds like he’s drumming up some publicity for rejoining the boys and girls for one last lucrative trek around the enormodomes
Could be. Although their manager, Azoff (no really, you can look it up and everything), claims a recent tour without Lindz was their most lucrative ever.
“Last” – that’s a bit optimistic innit? As with all the other crusts, there won’t be a “last” tour until every single one of them has gone up the great coke-ridden fundament in the sky.
His European solo tour (including three UK dates) has just gone on sale, so can’t do that any harm.
Tsk.
Dreams is a great song, also Rhiannon (brilliant vocal performance live in her prime).
@allium-sativum
You missed a U out.
That’s the joke. All that tiresome backstabbing. Tsk. Too subtle as usual. Oh I give up.
I apologise. I thought it was ME being clever..
Personally Christine McVie is my fave (and Peter Green and Danny Kirwan)
Hard for me to choose a favourite from the classic Rumours-Tusk line up, really. Unlike other pop groups of that period, like The Beatles and X-Ray Specs, they each individually contributed something valuable. Except the bassist.
He contributed bass
And the Mac.
Was it drizzling?
Lindsey looks rather like my Nan in that article, and has a hairdo to match.
FWIW (and this may upset some of our ABBA-hating contributors on here), Rumours was that rare thing – a multi-million selling album that was actually extremely good. And although I believe there was an early version of the band that included some other blokes, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie ARE Fleetwood Mac. No other versions really count, even though John McVie hasn’t spoken since 1975.
It’s just a pity that they are all in their seventies but still behaving like children.
Of course other versions count. Probably not to your average American pop picker in his 60s or 70s, but e.g. the 69 version sold more singles than The Beatles in the UK I believe, you can’t write that out of history …
Albatross no. 1
Man of the world 2
Oh well 2
Never sold as many singles again, only Tango in the Night era comes close
My tongue was embedded in my cheek.
Oh
Well
Which one was that, Dud?
You enjoying that sandwich?
Frankly I agree with you. If I never hear another electric blues album I won’t mind.
You know, they could have avoided all this if they’d have just kept the Bob Welch lineup of the band. Let’s face it: aside from a few songs (You Make Loving Fun, Rhiannon, Gypsy), this bunch of bedhopping megalomaniacs were never as good as the Welch-era Mac. I’d pay good money to see a version of the band that played Come a Little Bit Closer, Heroes Are Hard to Find, The Ghost, Spare Me a Little of Your Love, Remember Me, Sentimental Lady, Keep on Going, Hypnotized, Why etc. Although, if there’s good money involved, Mick will probably make it happen somehow.
I’d love to see the early 70’s songs again, sadly it’s a bit tricky without the members who went mental, joined a cult or died
Bare Trees is a cracking album and very under heard I reckon
We went to see the terrific Mick Fleetwood & Friends film at the cinema on Tuesday, and one of the highlights for me was Neil Finn singing Man Of The World, which led to a discussion about the ongoing who’s in-who’s out soap opera, and our reflections that we were really fortunate to catch the ‘classic’ LA-based line-up on what definitely looks to have been their last tour in 2015. And they were absolutely fantastic, all of them, but Lindsey seemed to take so much care in both being the de facto bandleader, and as a giving and sensitive accompanist in Christine and Stevie’s solo turns. The unspoken personal history and feeling between him and Stevie during ‘Landslide’ was palpable and moving. Such a shame they’ve gone from that extremely hard-won mutual respect to this tawdry squabbling…but I’m sure that either one of them will still be devastated when the other passes.
I saw them on the last tour, I quite enjoyed it. Felt a bit weird seeing Neil Finn sing some Buckingham songs and not really a Nicks fan at all. But I really enjoyed Christine Mc ,the group efforts, Green/Kirwan tributes and Campbell was great throughout.

I am very much enjoying this thread!
One of the rites of passage when getting older is the realisation that some bands hate each other. You kind of want them to be mates but that’s not always the case. There’s money to be made, so they’ll get together just like you or I would if someone offered you a lucrative contract to do something you’re already pretty good at. Often your co-workers are people you would avoid socially but hey, plus ca difference yeah?
I think it’s come out the other side now (hurr) and the idea of people in bands being friends is actually quite funny. The Police going on a boating holiday together. The 1996 line-up of the Fall share a table at a wedding reception. The Eagles spend Christmas Eve by the fireside, wearing Rudolf jumpers and passing round the egg-nog.
All bands live together in one big house. This is a FACT
The best ones live in a Loft.
Wilco?
Metalattica ?
(I know…I know…)
Talking Heads, of course!
I understand that all members of The Loft live in a bungalow.
The People Under the Stairs live on the landing. Hee-hee-hilarious.
After being dropped by their label, ‘Endless Art’ hitmakers A House are homeless.
Shack are feeling the draught around their nethers.
Fuck me his hairstyle is enough to be kicked out of the band – he looks like Homer Simpson.
The soap opera continues – I really like Stevie Nicks but it is apparent she has a fragile ego that needs massaging every so often.
B
Fuck me he needs to be kicked out of the band just for that hairstyle.
He looks like Homer Simpson on a bad night.
The Soap Opera goes on.
I love Stevie Nicks but it is clear she has a fragile ego that needs massaging on a regular basis.
Buckingham is a very good guitarist but his solo stuff is pretty average to be honest.
They were good together but that train has left the station it would seem.
I’m guessing this is the Superdeluxe Edition…?
@black-type
Excellent work!
