FM just toured Australia. recently. Neil Finn and Mike Campbell bedded in after over 70 shows.
Never been a Finn fan but this is nice. And I’ve always been a Campbell fan.
Mojo, formerly of this parish, describes the two of them on stage as the rock star and the librarian. Guess which is which.

Wow, that sounds great and I had no idea Neil Finn had joined Fleetwood Mac. That seems bizarre but also strangely perfect.
I’ve posted on here before about how much I love Peter Green’s gentler, less bluesy side (Man of the World, Albatross and the coda to Oh Well). And Neil Finn does it justice here.
Junior Wells says
Yes Finn and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

I on the other hand am a big fan of Neil Finn and consider him a master of (vocal) melodic construction. Both him and Campbell seem to have fitted into Fleetwood Mac well. Sure, they’re not a permanent fixture, but they keep the juggernaut moving forwards till the rest of Mac kiss and make up with Buckingham.
IMO this is a lovely version of the song.

A mate went to a VIP dinner, photo op and questions thing. This was after their previous Aussie tour and before Lindsay got the arse. At the time Mick said he hadn’t spoken to Lindsay for 2 years. 2 fucken years.
I doubt he will be back. They’re all too old. Eventually, the dollars have to give way to the aching joints.

A friend of mine had a kind of tour manager role in NZ a few years ago. His comments were first of all there were something like 200 active lawsuits amongst various band members, and secondly Stevie N at the time was seriously unwell. Had to be basically propped up to get through the show.
Just passing it on, as you do…

Lindsey Buckingham had a heart attack & open heart surgery back in February. The intubation affected his voice & it’s doubtful if he’ll be able to sing again.
He did accompany his daughter, playing guitar, at her high school graduation in May, but it could well be that we add him to the “Stop” thread.
Mousey says
That’s very good. I love that song, I’m not a fan of post PG FM but that’s a great performance,
Mike_H says
It’s a great song and they do it well, but it’s not that hard for a decent singer to do justice to, by following the original template. Requires a really good soulful, melodic guitar player, of course. One who knows the value of the spaces between notes.

It’s a good gig for Neil and Mike, keeps the rent paid…and lovely to see them making sure Peter Green’s legacy endures.

I’ve always been a Neil Finn fan (not averse to FM either), but I really can’t see what his motivation is for taking this gig, apart from keeping the pension pot nicely topped up. I’d much rather see him doing his own material.
Moose the Mooche says
He gets to do some of his own songs too, or a meringue?
Junior Wells says
A couple.

I think I read somewhere that Buckingham wouldn’t ever agree to performing anything from the Green era…? I like pretty much all versions of FM to a greater or lesser degree, and I’m glad they are at last reaching back a little. Are they doing any LB songs?
Junior Wells says
See above

Buckingham sings a spiffing versh of Green’s Oh Well on the ‘Fleetwood Mac Live’ album.

Oh good, I’m seeing them on Thursday in Auckland, Neil’s homecoming gig.
I’ve never seen FM, but did see Stevie Nicks last year and she had no problems standing up.
Junior Wells says
I now wish I’d seen this iteration. Mainly to check whether Mike Campbell provided a grittier edge.
nickduvet says
They put on a great show last night. Campbell does provide the grit for sure. He took the vocal as well guitar duties on Oh Well and handled the edgier stuff like World Turning comfortably.
Neil got a lovely reception from the crowd and it was emotional to see him fronting the Mac belting out ‘I Got You’. Respect to Stevie for taking a verse of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ too.
Junior Wells says
Thanks Nick. Reinforces my regret.
