Shame they are heading to The Fleece in Bristol. Second only to The Station as the most ghastly, uncomfortable pit in which to (try to) hear good music.
Not that I’m complaining as I prefer small venues but, for a band which has been active for 17 years, they play some pretty scuzzy places.
I really like the Rescue Rooms as (i) it’s driveable distance from home (ii) there’s a car park next door (iii) gigs end at 10:30pm so I can be back home before I turn into a pumpkin.
I didn’t go to the Barbican gig with the orchestra a couple of years back, but I wonder if there were more people on stage than in the audience.
If we assume that you have a random chance of being “booked out” on a given night, then the odds of you NOT being double booked after 20 months (approx 600 days) are 599/600 x 599/600 = 0.9967.
So the odds on you being double booked are approximately 0.0033, which is approximately 1 in 300.
There’s probably a dozen flaws in that logic, but let’s start there.
We went to the Brudenell a couple of summers ago as part of a long weekend in Leeds. I really liked it and size and layout reminded me of Nell’s In West London. Cheap beer too!
I used to live about 200 yards down the road from the Brudenell (in the Harolds) as a student for 2 years. It was probably a “Working Mens Club” then (88-89), it certainly wasn’t a gig venue that I recall.
Probably a rundown factory, in or out of use. It is in the street running to the side of that old dance club with the crushed cars as a gateway to their carpark. In fact there are load of dodgy buildings in makeshift use, even that self same carpark, now called the Digbeth Arena, no less.

See you at the RR, I hope, @fentonsteve , this was the last gig I went to.

Annoyingly, I am booked to do sound in Cambridge. Although that date has already been postponed three times…

Having a social diary that is double booked does raise questions about the ‘dull’ persona you regularly purport to have.
Never happens to me.

My first night out in 20 months and I’m double-booked. What are the odds?

I don’t know the other venues but the Brudenell is certainly not scuzzy, it does have a certain charm.

Mama Rouxs is quite fun, the closest thing to be outdoors when indoors, such is its state of shabby chic ( = falling down)

I’m not sure that it was a venue when I lived and gigged in Birmingham (2003-2009). Where is it/what did it used to be called?
