Two that jump out for me are ‘Alan Partridge: Why, When, Where, How And Whom’ [9pm Wednesday 27th, BBC2] ahead of a new series on the Beeb in 2018, a one hour special looking back on the phenomenon that is Partridge.
And ‘Vic & Bob’s Big Night Out’ [9pm, Friday 29th, BBC2] a half hour, one off special which promises sketches shot on location, songs, skits and stunts. I can’t wait.
Have you spotted anything worthy of programming into the PVR?
And what’s the worst thing you can imagine having to sit through?

Partridge and Doctor Who or us. We will probably be slumped in front of the telly a lot of the time but Christmas specials are usually pretty grim fare so it will be DVDs. For some reason we often turn to Tarantino for Christmas evening entertainment.

Probably a movie or two. Watch hardly any TV at Christmas.

Well I had a quick flick through the two week guide in Sunday’s Times and have found very slim pickings so far…I’ve only got to Tuesday! I’ll probably record Partridge and Vic & Bob as you’ve pointed them out but all the other claimed ‘highlights’ leave me cold. There’ll be football on Friday & Saturday evenings, then again on Tuesday so, as we’ll be out all of Monday there’s not much need to search lower down the entertainment pile. I always like the Jimmy Carr Big Fat Quiz so that’ll be on.
What will I be avoiding?.. anything with animals (domestic or wild, living or cooked), probably everything on BBC1 can be avoided with anything even vaguely religious.

The worst thing is those bloody “reality” shows my wife watches. I swear, if there was a show that featured a 600 lb. midget in a singing competition, it would absolutely be her most favorite show ever.

Can I recommend A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong on BBC1 30th December..? If you have seen the Play That Goes Wrong in the West End or on tour then you will know this lot are brilliant. Last year they did Peter Pan Goes Wrong and it was the best thing on TV – I still laugh just thinking about it.

My mate Rachel’s Christmas Doctor Who (apparently some other people involved) – did I mention I visited the set? and then hit the Blu Rays . I picked up that 22.11.63 mini series for a fiver plus got Jabberwocky and complete Monterey Pop, The Lady Vanishes & Man Who Knew Too Much on the backlog.
Then there is always Netflix

With Black Mirror Season 4 on Netflix from 29th Dec……

Jabberwocky… very underrated. Almost forgotten in fact. Why?

“Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” It’s been years since I’ve seen it and I hope it lives up to the domestic hype I’ve stoked.
Gatz says
Oh, it’s still wonderfully nuts. There’s a high camp drama on BBC2 at the moment with Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange as Davis and Crawford which covers the making of Baby Jane – http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05lghlj
Gary says
If that’s The Feud I thoroghly recommend it. Sarandon is brilliant as Davis, yet it’s Lange who manages to steal the show as Crawford.
DogFacedBoy says
Sarandon has basically been playing Bette Davis for years

I watched WHTBJ? again recently (it’s on youtube), after watching Feud. Even better than I remembered.

Is Yogi’s First Christmas on?

We got Prime for a month so are caning that. I have watched so far included with our free trial ep 1 of Man In the High Castle, so will try and do all series 1 by the time our free trial ends, The Handmaiden (brilliant) and Non-Stop (utter tosh, kept us all entertained. The kids think that Liam should be their real dad not me). But beyond half-a-dozen movies we’ve not seen and MITHC not much to keep it on for. the kids have watched Grand Tour ep1…its Top Gear isn’t it, stripped of whatever charm it ever possessed.
