  30. Two holes to play so time for a score update:

    Playing like a titan and looking odds-on to win – Badartdog 12 under
    Hanging on in there, Leedsboy 9 under
    Shock of the round, Lodestone is 8 under
    and one shot further behind is mikethep 7 under
    Plumb is -5
    Bozo & Clive -3
    Steve & Bamber at -1
    Sound Hound, The Cat & fortuneight are all +1
    Whilst the leader appears unassailable, no less than 5 players have their eyes on Spoonie :
    BC, Junior and Carl +2
    Max & Jim +4

    Exciting, eh?

    • No , a scratched eye and an embarrassingly long time to get a not particularly difficult word were the cause of the delay. Just got it now after the support act for Hot House Flowers finished
      bogey.

  47. Onwards to the 18th.
    Tomorrow: a double bogey for Badartdog, and Leedsboy snatches victory with an amazing eagle – yeah, like that’s going to happen….

    The real excitement is down at the bottom, Spoonie is packed and ready with no clear idea where he is going next.
    Two shots separate four players – BC, Junior, Max and Jim. All to play for!!

  51. A hole in one for me and a sudden outbreak of double bogies would have seen me break through to about 5th. Oh well.

  64. The computer programme has been checked and rechecked and the results are now in.

    Both The Guy-Who-Can’t-Paint-And-Owns-A-Jack-Russell and the Young-Boy-From-Yorkshire are the only two players not to drop a shot in the entire round. Give them both a round of applause!

    But there’s only one winner, and it’s, no surprise here, badartdog! A frankly astonishing one eagle, 12 birdies and 5 pars left him holding the Glittering (?) Trophy (?) aloft with an incredible 14-under par. Us mortals can only worship from afar.

    In most other competitions, Leedsboy would have been our winner but instead a most creditable 11-under saw him safely in second place.

    In third, a very consistent performance from Oz saw mikethep take third at 8 under.

    I’m afraid the pressure got to Lodestone. After being in second place (albeit miles behind badartdog) for most of the round , nerves obviously took over. Still, fourth at 7-under may well be his highest placing so far.

    Bozo (when’s your next album Paul – it’s been nearly ten years?) and Plumb 1909 were 6-under.

    Next were Clive -4, Steve T -3, Bamber and fortuneight at -1.

    It shows the standard of our comp that Par for Cheshire Cat & Carl only gives then equal 12th place.

    It was a nerve shredding finale re the Battle for Spoonie :
    Sound Hound always felt safe at +1
    BC and Junior held on for, in the end, a safe +2 (although kudos to Junior for perhaps the most erratic round ever?)

    This left Jim & Max fighting it out and…..

    Spoonie is on the overnight train to Cornwall!!
    Max +3, Jim +4.

    They think it’s all over, it is now!!

    • Phew! We did not get on well last time Spoonie had to stay with me, so it’s a relief for both of us that he will be visiting Cornwall. Thanks for taking the bullet, Jim!

  65. Congrats to BadArtDog for an incredible round, runners up medal for LeedsBoy for a very commendable performance and a bronze award on the podium for MiketheP.
    Round of applause for Lodes for keeping score, and I’ll do it in March, if that’s acceptable.

  66. Super perfromance from BAD – he’s the Tiger Woods of Wordle golf – hopefully his fall from grace will be as swift.

    Well played Lodes – a strong score and some very strong scoring as well.

    Look after Spoonie Jim – he is, after all, the real trophy.

  67. Thank you — and thanks for the moderating, mister Lodes. Well done to Leedsboy too – another excellent round. Unlike Tiger Woods, I feel my style is painfully dull and quite boring. Usually Adieu, occasionally Irate as starters. Boring. I’ll try and mix it up next month.

  69. It is clear I have neither the patience nor the aptitude for glittering prizes. But when it comes to cutlery I am always in the hunt.
    Congrats all round and thanks for your patience in chasing up those of us who forget to post results Lodes.

    Jim, take my advice – lock Spoonie away securely! He’ll be at your drinks cabinet and rifling through your wallet before you can say Tommy Robinson.
