Due to well, no public demand whatsoever, the Stop Making Sense soundtrack is getting a young persons makeover. “Coming soon”, whenever that might be.
Featuring 16 tracks by 16 artists. I have heard of some of them

Paramore – Burning Down the House:
That’s quite good, if also a bit pointless.
Try the yin and yang of a cool Cardigan and a rampant Jones
Bonnie Raitt did a pretty good versh. With a little help from a wee laddie frae Dumbarton.
Tom Jones, eh? He is very… loud.
Teezo Touchdown* – Making Flippy Floppy
(*) Nope, me neither.
Er, are we not meant to notice that that’s just the original record with a different vocal on top?
It’s not a cover, it’s karaoke.
Interesting idea, a cover of a film rather than an album. Other candidates could include Flame, Expresso Bongo and The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle
Can only be a matter of time before they get round to Gonks Go Beat.
Also, 4k film transfer UHD BD out in May, Dolby Atmos mix etc.

What have they done to the new soundtrack album? Dreadful. Is it that god-botherer who did Little Creatures again?
I do realise I could google all this but ohhh that’s too much for me.
I’m happy with the sound of my 1k Blu-ray disc, so declined the offer of 55+ quid for a double elpee (which I note is being reissued in a different sleeve this year).
I am looking forward to the SDEs of the studio albums, though.
Ooh I’m getting a flashback. I remember one of Bob Numbers’ legendary meltdowns started with him asking a question and someone suggesting why didn’t he just look it up..
A Bob Numbers Flashback!! Serious stuff! Is there a doctor in the house??
(Mr Numbers was a legendary Australian AW contributor about 50 years ago.)
Poor Bob. We were merciless. A cat among the pigeons, like that beautiful song by Bros.
Wait, is there a jukebox musical we could do about the history of the Afterword?
I think I’m right in saying that Bob Numbers (or someone purporting to be him) still posts on the Steve Hoffman Forums.
Presumably he’s changed his name to Bob Analogue.
I SAID PRESUMABLY…oh please yerselves
Or Bob Dynamic Range DataBase.
I’d be quite interested to hear artists like Lorde and the National do a TH cover.
The Paramore track is ok but, in my opinion, Tom Jones and the Cardigans did it far better. But I’m biased. Welsh and Swedish is a dream team for me,
Tom Jones did it better? That’s a real kiss off.
Weird timing. Having recently been laid-up while waiting for a back op, I’ve been reading (and mostly enjoying) Byrne’s How Music Works which has sat unread on my Kindle for a decade. It’s sent me back to Talking Heads who I’ve been hugely enjoying all over again (and I’ve even dived into Byrne’s solo career for the first time). Had no idea my current listening was so zeigteisty.
Recent listening, obviously involving SMS and The Name…, has made me realise that they’re probably the one band I’d pay silly money I don’t have to see them reform live. Also just discovered Stop Making Sense comes out in cinemas here in Madrid tomorrow, the day I go into hospital. Bollocks to that. I’ll avoid the above examples and stick to the originals until I’m out and about again.
Ha! Saw this one from afar and read about it, wondering if suitable for a Cover Me Songs review. Looked up the who’s and why’s and suggested a younger person take that bullet. I might listen to the National, but little else jumps out at me.
I’m still in trouble for my review of Nouvelle Vague’s latest……..
I don’t see any point to stuff like this. If you are going to completely reinvent the song, well… maybe if it works. But just doing a new version of the same basic thing isn’t worth doing. It’s like taking a great classic movie, and just remaking it with current stars without changing anything. Why bother?
Oh I dunno – there have been a number of these album things in the past.
Yes, many do just go through the motions and recreate the original, but sometimes you get a new take on an old favourite.
Nouvelle Vague (as mentioned above) being a case in point. Metallica’s Garage Days being another.
The Pretenders breathy slowed down take of The Ramones Something To Believe in also deserves a specific mention
I really hope the rest of them do make a radical take on an old fave. Sadly, listening to the two above, as Moosey says, they are just sleb karaoke versions.
My money’s on Lorde and Girl In Red.
Maybe youngsters balk at DB’s vocals or appearance: not conventional enough.
Youngsters won’t be the slightest bit interested in this. It’s aimed at the Radio 2 crowd. People with mortgages and greenhouses and such.
Youngsters – that’s the under-fifties, isn’t it?
Almost. People of working age.
a.k.a. The Pre-Retired.
Forget cover versions! How about some mash ups with modern artists?
Like Dua Lipa…
Or Donald Trump
On his case, sadly it looks like it could be a case of Twice in a Lifetime.
I wonder if that made Miley Cyrus’s phone ping. I can imagine her saying “what the f*** is he on about now?”
Lorde – Take Me To The River:
Girl In Red – Girlfriend Is Better:
A shame they didn’t ask She She She. But this live go at Slippery People from Maida Vale is great.
