That’s The Everyman Crossword in The Observer, I forgot to include.

Brilliant.
For those who don’t “do” cryptics…
The solution to the clue (afterword) means “last section”.
“of tar we newly” means an anagram (the word “newly” is the indicator of this) of the letters in “of tar we, being in this case “afterwo”.
Put this “on road” (or “rd” for short), and you get
afterword.

Yes, I smiled at that. I’m sure we can do better though if we made one specifically for this board.

Oh heck….. Crosswords are always the best and clearest scientific proof that I am absolutely as thick as shit.
I went down to the crossword, fell down on my knees.

The whole thing is here if you want to have a bash now that Carl has started it off for you https://www.theguardian.com/crosswords/everyman/3730
I’m a crossword fan, and usually complete the Everyman within 10 minutes. That is no proof of intelligence in itself; it just demonstrates that I spend too much of my spare time doing crosswords.
bobness says
Exactly. Cryptics are an acquired skill, not in any way proof of “intelligence”, whatever that is.
