The way he’s going with Venezuela, they may have to award him a War Prize.

Yes and apparently the flights and hotels, restaurants etc are stratospherically expensive too. Mind you nothing could persuade me to go there at the moment.
Saw earlier that if a family went to every England game and England got to the final, staying in budget hotels and eating in MaccyD every day, and cheapest game seats, travel & ticket costs would all amount to £42000
I saw that too. They did allow 5 grand for accommodation and 200 quid a day spending money so it could be done cheaper. Get an Airbnb and cook for yourselves! And it is for 5 people so any vacation will be expensive even before you start buying 40 tickets for World Cup games.
Games in Canada (and Mexico) too! I would like to see Canada v Wales in Toronto should Wales qualify in the playoffs, seems I have to buy my ticket before knowing if they make it. Probably little chance of getting one though.
I misunderstood how the ticket buying worked and waited, registered to check the prices of that Toronto game and cheapest available was 2 grand. Fuck that!

Just come back from New Orleans and Florida. As much as I love America I won’t be going again any time soon. The army scout cars and machine gun toting soldiers were on the streets of New Orleans. Made me feel quite sick to be honest. Then when we get back he announces that you will be required to produce 5 years of social media records.

I happened to watch the recent 60 Minutes programme about Trump sending migrants to El Salvador’s CECOT prison, before the video got taken down. I’d already seen videos about CECOT (one with Ross Kemp, IIRC) and the idea that a young Venezuelan student awaiting his asylum application to be processed found himself incarcerated in that absolute hellhole is really shocking.
Watch while Trump negotiates a wild card entry for Russia as part of one of his peace deals.
It’s the same tactic as the tariffs. Announce some outrageous and completely unworkable policy to universal outrage, then walk it back a bit and everybody thinks phew.
That’s the standard MO in 21st century politics.
The entire concept of the FIFA Peace Prize is beyond parody. The only consolation is that it makes Trump look even more ridiculous. The shots of him receiving it without even a hint of embarrassment or shame were hilarious. Mind you, I always think the same about bands who are willing to be enrolled in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I assume The Cure were almost forced into it so as not to fall out with promoters, but at least they had the decency to treat it with the contempt it deserves.
I long ago lost all interest in men’s international football, although I’d never miss a televised game with The Lionesses. Still too much hassle to try to see them live though. 😀
I expressed on here my disappointment in Depeche Mode entering the R&R HOF – particularly when you consider that the artists pay a big fee to be included. It’s the same model as awards for commercial air conditioning suppliers in the East Midlands. You help pay for a big event and in return you get a trophy.
When DM were inducted it was during COVID, so at least they didn’t have to attend a big do. I remain surprised that they did it.
