I always remember playing in a 6 a side tournament when I was a kid – about 10 I think. We won and when we were driving back – the whole team in one minibus, So You Win Again came on the radio. We all sang along, changing the lyric to So We Win Again. It’s such a strong memory that whenever I hear Hot Chocolate songs, I always think of that.
Emma could be the Sisters best song – certainly their best cover. Here’s a mash-up, that I think pays playful tribute to the original by extending and filling in extra sweet layers: https://hearthis.at/4DVwKd6r/mars-chocolate/
Great voice – and one that I’ve come to appreciate more over the years.
If anyone ever asks about Hot Chocolate beyond the You Sexy Thing / So You Win Again / Every Ones A Winner axis, then I play them this:
This news sort of passed me by as I was in the middle of some ridiculous back to back long haul flights a couple of weeks back.
Hot Chocolate were of course deemed naff at the time and absolutely great in retrospect. I far preferred them to Abba. Even at the time.
Robbie Vincent used to do a soul show on Radio London in the early 80s and in the middle of all the Fatback Band, Brass Construction and Blackbyrds stuff, he played this and said you’d be surprised at how good Hot Chocolate really are.
He was right. They were a seriously good band and Erroll had a distinctive and affecting voice. A seriously good one. R.I.P
I think Hot Chocolate must have been my intro to soul music when I was a nipper. I remember my dad mumbling something about Errol’s ‘whining’ delivery and stomping out of the room during TOTP. I failed to see his objection, and stuck with it. It started with ‘It Started With A Kiss.’ Thanks for the tunes.
I think it was in Smash Hits, he was asked if he could change one thing about himself what would it be?
His reply was that he’d like to grow another six inches, followed by a wink and a Sid James type chuckle.
Errol Brown on TOTP singing You Sexy Thing is where the focussed memories of my childhood begin.
Sisters fans around the globe mourn.

RIP Errol Brown.
Very sad. Great singer.
Sad news indeed. One of the most iconic voices of British pop of his time. And a thoroughly nice bloke by the sound of things.
It’s cheering that they did that final tour. He went out in style.

Memories of teenage years – Emma, Everyone’s a winner, You Sexy Thing – always A TOTP regular.
I always thought ‘You could have been a lady’ has more than a hint of ‘Loaded’ about it.

Hot Chocolate’s first 45 was a contemporary cover of ‘Give Peace A Chance’. Doesn’t sound too promising does it? Believe me, it’s brilliant.
There was a time when this clip would have appeared so hopelessly naff that it could be shown to peals of laughter across the nation.
But Errol Brown was is very stylish and dignified singer.

I see I am 3 weeks late, but I missed this too.
