Catching up with my Top of the Pops 2 backlog, ( I know, I`m still on 1981) and the number one sound of Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin for four weeks pop pickers. Now I cant remember ever seeing the video and so was delighted to see Thomas Dolby making a cameo appearance, 2:24 in if you cant be bothered wading through the whole song.
This made me wonder…..are there any other videos with pop star cameos? I know of one other but its very obscure.

Macca is in Tracey Ullman’s ‘They Don’t Know’ video:
She has form:
Hank Marvin in Move Over Darling
Adrian Edmondson in Sunglasses
Neil Kinnock in My Guy
Ah yes, Neil. As seen on TOTP recently.
Mr Edmondson also has a starring role in Kirsty MacColl’s “Terry”
Wyclef Jean is joined by Zimmy.
The late, and former Steve Harrington.

Yes, Klas Nomi is in that video, too.
More Dolby watch results from old TOTP https://youtu.be/_7VgDSNxlGU
A young Vic Reeves makes several appearances in this Shaky video. Notably at 1:37:
“Interestingly” …the song was written in 1916!
….very poor. Very poor indeed….
Fun Boy Three made an appearance in Madness’s clip for “Driving In My Car”…Terry Hall even smiled!
Not a video, but following the TOTP theme, Boy George was in the audience on TOTP before he was there with Culture Club…..

Another cameo in a Madness video – Labi Siffre in Madness’s version of his “It Must Be Love”.
Not a pop star of course, but here’s Ol’ Blue Shirts himself. Wearing a blue shirt and pretending to play the sax for Nona Hendryx.
I thought I’d have beaten to this: T. Rex on ToTP with Elton performing Get It On.
Graham Chapman joined Iron Maiden and Eddie for this. It became one of his last performances. Graham, that is. Eddie is still going. It is supposed to be a bit silly.
Cindi Lauper ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’
The bloke at the end in the tux holding the flowers is Mark Ellen favourite and singer-songwriter Steve Forbert.
If I remember correctly, the dad is a famous pro wrestler. Can’t remember his name though.
You’re thinking of Pete “Banana Feet” McSweeney. On account of always wearing his trademark yellow boots.
An oldie but goodie: Faces on TotP feat. John Peel on banjo.
A pedant notes: Actually a mandolin, I think.
Also…
Chevy Chase in Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al”
Michael Douglas Kathleen Turner and Danny de Vito in Billy Ocean’s “When The Going Gets Tough”
Mrs Murdoch in Bryan Ferry’s “Let’s Stick Together”
Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston of Bucks Fizz, Hazel O’Connor, Kate Garner of Haysi Fantayzee and Bananarama (among others) in The Eurythmics’ “Who’s That Girl?”
According to Peel’s autobiography, the musician’s union was non too happy about Peel appearing, and got the producers to agree to keep the cameras off him throughout filming. Rod the Mod got wind of this and kept going past Peel to ensure he did get in shot.
I don’t buy the Peel adulation. Pair of underpants with a record player.
Is Michelle Collins in the background of Squeeze’s “Up the Junction”? Again, not a pop star, but worth a mention.
She was one of Mari Wilson’s backing singers, The Wilsations.
The Killers are in New Order’s Touched By The Hand Of God video. Never looked better…
On the slightly more indie front, Graham Fellows (possibly best known as Top pop sensation Jilted John) has appeared in the videos of “I’m in Love with the girl on The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk” by The Freshies and “Don’t look at me (I don’t Like It)” by The Lovely Eggs… he had a sausage roll thumb!
Eek A Mouse appears as Santa in the vido for UB40’s Many Rivers To Cross (a cover from the first of a series of albums of covers trying for a cheeky Christmas number one. Credectomy!)
