Unlikely bedfellows do a fundraising track for the RMT union. Downloadable for a quid from Bandcamp, all proceeds go to the Dispute Hardship Fund.
Much as I love both Dexys and Primals, it sounds a bit like a Pogues out-take, at times it sounds like Kevin and Bobby are singing two different songs.
They should lock Minister for Transport Mark Harper MP in a room with this on a loop, he’d give rail workers a decent pay rise within an hour.

I’m going to hang on for the 20th anniversary box set
Am I the only person who finds “Enough is enough” to be a bit of a pathetic slogan? The kind of thing you say to someone who’s nicked your dinner money every day this week but you think you can appeal to his better nature and he’ll let you off today….
Didn’t Kevin Rowland once call the Greenham Common women scum? Very socialist…
I recall when The Clash – “the only band that ever cared”, declared “Cut The Crap”. Shortly after, they did.
Says on Bandcamp it’s an original song, but to these cloth ears the tune’s Pogueness comes from it sounding a lot like a song called Streets Of New York* by The Wolfe Tones, which I won’t post because The Wolfe Tones.
(An original song, though written in a well-worn idiom to sound a bit traditional by a guy called Liam Reilly – a popular purveyor of silly love songs – around the same time Macca was striking big with freshly-minted-but-feels-like-it’s-been-around-forever Mull Of Kintyre).
Nice enough, but the lyrics seem a bit levered in and sloganeering rather than a statement of belief. (I’m hearing a bit of Give Peace A Chance about it too)
Can’t argue with the sentiment (regardless of political stance) but just doesn’t feel “passionate” in it’s delivery
(at the playout, I was expecting to hear the Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band)
What do you expect? Bands that are as old as this are playing with agit-rock protest cliches all the time. I missed the “reggae” breakdown that used to be pretty ubiquitous. Maybe that’s too “culturally appropriating” for now.
I wonder how much Bobby Gillespie and Kevin “I was on the dole after ‘Come on Eileen’ you know” Rowland have spent between them on herb, E, and Bolivian sherbert, let alone other substances. Enough to have made some profoundly life-improving changes for unfortunates if directed to the right charity, I would venture.
I never like that argument because we’ve all got disposable income we spend on sh*te and we could all give 100% of it away.
Plus, it reminds me I gave money to some rough looking guy and a stranger felt the need to tell me “he’s only going to spend that on drink” and (being a feckless student at the time) I said “that’s all I was going to spend it on”.
@Vincent Jesus Christ that is cynical. Let’s all jump on the bandwagon and slag off artists for doing something for a good cause.
There really is a lot of negativity on here these days.
Guilty. But not quite as you say, as I’m all for folk helping people. I just think this is lazy artistically, and it’s difficult to scold people for their attitudes when you’ve generously supported criminal networks who enable their excesses.
The fundraising sentiment is laudable but, come on, the song is just awful, the lyrics trite (certainly enough of them is enough) and the tune a lazyish steal. Corbyn will rate it a masterpiece. To my ears it does the tradition of protest songs a disservice.
I love both bands, but can’t say the song is great. However, l don’t care. At least they are doing something, however insignificant people may think the gesture or sentiment is. There should be a lot more people speaking up, protesting, and supporting the strikers. This government have been heading into fascist territory and taking the piss for way too long, and even conservative ministers with some kind of conscience should speak up against their extreme policies. As usual, it’s always the poor that suffer, while the really rich pay bugger all to help.

Rant over.
This one’s better:
I’d hoped it a cover of this!
Some opinionated comments above.
What the hell do you expect?
I’ve no issues with this, it means well, that’s enough for me.
