For many years, I had a copy of this on cassette, taped from the John Peel show by holding the condenser mike in the player near the wireless….

Splendid stuff – a track from Gruts For Tea Again featured on one of my earlier CD Swap discs, to mixed reactions.

Is it just me? I’m afraid I’ve never got Ivor Cutler. I really cannot understand what people see in his stuff.

We had a copy of that ‘Gruts’ EP at home when I grew up, so the cover photo is deeply imprinted on me. The picture always perplexed me, but I never played the EP til I was in my teens. I found IC’s flat delivery almost disturbing initially , but once I got on his wavelength he slayed me & i’ve been a fan ever since.
I’m not surprised he’s not a household name though, he’s not exactly Peter Kay is he?
